Whatever else this government do (and there's plenty of issues with this budget) ministers will always be able to point to this as an incredible important contribution to the country's future. Almost half a million kids taken out of poverty.
Scrapping the two-child limit in full is a monumental decision. Well done to all involved in the Child Poverty Strategy, and everyone who has made the case against the policy.

OBR says scrapping costs £3 billion in 2029-30 and will lift 450,000 out of poverty

We cannot overestimate the impact of this measure in improving the lives of children currently living in poverty in the UK.

An unalloyed good, that the Tories have already announced they will reverse if they ever see power again.

OBR estimates that abolition of two-child cap will reduce child poverty by 450,000 and benefit 560,000 families by an average of £5,310 per year.

On the one hand, this is the perfect end to an amazingly chaotic Budget process. On the other, it makes it much easier to cover than having to actually listen to the speech.
BREAKING The entire Budget has leaked early

- £22BN of headroom
- £26bn tax rises
- Freeze on tax thresholds
- Pay per mileage confirmed
- Changes to capital gains

NEW There's no overstating how significant the Nathan Gill case is. On Friday, the close associate of Nigel Farage was jailed for over 10 years for taking bribes ultimately from a friend of Putin. It's a complex, detail-heavy story that raises questions about Farage’s claim Gill was ‘one bad apple’🧵

From the obvious reality of this two-bit bigot to the orchestrated attacks on the BBC to the pathological arrogance of Johnson & Cummings, it’s oddly ungratifying to see so much of ‘How They Broke Britain’ still resonating this month.
NEW: Nigel Farage is facing renewed calls to explain why he repeatedly aired tropes and conspiracy theories associated with antisemitism during interviews, after claims the Reform UK leader used racist language in his teens.

I remain genuinely gobsmacked that this wasn’t picked up more. The Alex Jones who *repeatedly accused grieving parents of making up their children’s murders*.
Anyway, “after the news we’ll be joined by Nigel Farage & definitely won’t be asking him about any of this…”
On US TV shows and podcasts from 2009-18, Farage discussed supposed plots by bankers to create a global government, citing Goldman Sachs, the Bilderberg group and George Soros as threats to democracy. Included six guest slots with the disgraced far-right US conspiracy theorist Alex Jones.

But here it looks improper. Laws may have been broken.

The extraordinary thing about all of this is that the libertarians & conspiracists are openly saying Johnson killing 23,000 innocent people was 'worth it', because lockdown is worse.

How many more people do these people wish had been killed so they could go to the pub?

Give us number.

I see all the usual far right conspiracy nuts are out in force to claim that the multi year inquiry, that took evidence from the most reliable expert scientists, relying on the world's extensive medical evidence, and all of the relevant govt ministers, so s completely wrong about lockdown.

1000s died because of that fckr.
