My dad, with no formal education beyond high school, had my same salary as a first-line service tech manager at IBM FORTY YEARS AGO (younger than me) in MICHIGAN (I’m in DC where COL is approx 30% higher). He was just “upper middle class” w a no-degree spouse that earned $70k+. In 1985. Ouch.
