Canary Media: "Chart: Lithium-ion battery prices fall yet again." EV battery prices continue to drop along a virtuous curve. In 2010 the cost per kilowatt-hour of energy storage was $1436, but as of today the cost has plummeted to $115, hence a drop of 92% in less than a decade and a half.

These devastating fires in LA are climate change in action. More than 80% of the county is under drought, and when hurricane force winds hit dry land, they ignite. As @katharinehayhoe.com says, we are experiencing global weirding.

Had an interesting conversation with a senior consultant to the Automotive space. He remains confident that EVs are coming, will come no matter what and Detroit knows that. Genie is out of the bottle.

The reported demise of EV tax credits will hurt, not help the US auto industry. Transportation electrification is happening world-wide, and automakers are global. Legacy US auto needs help to compete everywhere; credits at home help to create the EV demand they need to survive.

My heat pump equipment is 2 years old now. I'm in Ottawa, Canada, and have had no issues for either heating or cooling. My utility bills are lower now than when I was using natural gas equipment (by about $1K/year). The federal gov't provided a rebate and loan, making it even more attractive.

Three big mega trends converging at #NARUC2024 - 1) large load interconnection (e.g., AI DCs); 2) Resilience (fire/hurricane); and 3) Demand flex. The through line is how do we deploy the capital we have more efficiently and effectively to achieve goals? Time to push more on tech and economics.

Energy at NARUC so far (pun intended) is committed, resolved, and not despairing - states matter even more, from Regulation to Legislation, in support of demand and innovation.
