Transit doing its best in a hostile landscape (Connecticut’s Berlin Turnpike)

I rode the Broadway Bus! The privately operated local bus line in Bayonne, NJ is shutting down this month, likely to be replaced with an NJ Transit route. Cash only, no schedule…it can use an upgrade.

Excited to ride a unique Connecticut bus route today, the PPB! It’s operated by Peter Pan as a Hartford - Providence schedule but acts like a CTtransit express route within CT.

A CTtransit heritage unit! This is what they looked like when I was a kid.

NYC could have this.
Notre ville change ! Nos rues sont peu à peu rendues aux habitants, de nouveaux arbres sont plantés et les promenades facilitées et sécurisées.

C'est le cas de la rue Chaptal dans le 9e ou celle du Docteur-Lecène dans le 13e !

Got to try out the NextGen Acela this weekend with @jameslllamas.bsky.social ! Overall, these trains are a step forward into modernity. The interiors, while not perfect, elevate the travel experience with an ambiance that is both futuristic and nostalgic. I really enjoyed my ride!

There’s nothing better than going to a brewery w/out worrying about who’s driving after.

So in honor of summer beer season—and CT’s badass craft brew scene—here are my favorite MetroNorth-accessible breweries.

Rankings based on beer quality, 🚉🚂 access, and vibes.🧵/

Norwalk Transit District is rolling out a big routing and frequency upgrade on August 11th!

Really smart planning that should be emulated across the entire state

*Buses* are one way to address geographic equity, regardless of whether or not they’re free. Affordability is also an important equity measure, but that also can be addressed without free fares for all.

Framing fare-free buses as the best/only way to improve equitable outcomes is disingenuous.
the MTA has a huge equity issue - the subway doesn't go everywhere - and free buses are one way to address that. transit nerd urbanists tend to skip the equity issue entirely and will tell you to increase bus service on high density routes - for efficiency

Everything Andrew Cuomo touches goes to crap (and that's not even addressing the problem of inappropriate touching!). He's a bad governor and a bad manager with no interest in being a good steward of New York City. That editorial is an abomination.

How can the @amtrak.com Heartland Flyer cost over $3,600 per revenue hour to operate?! Nearly $30,000 per day. www.newson6.com/story/680c47...
Future of Heartland Flyer at risk as Texas funding nears end
Amtrak's Heartland Flyer, a vital link between Oklahoma City and Fort Worth, faces an uncertain future as Texas funding expires.

Bike-bus-bus-bike across Connecticut this morning, all in time for work! Saw a turtle and apparently just missed a bear according to people on the trail.

I love when I can take my hometown express bus. It spends 6 minutes on the freeway!

Whatcom Transit was our ride all over Bellingham this weekend! It’s a fantastic small-city system with several frequent corridors and rural service across the county. I was sure to stay near the train station, though, since WTA doesn’t run on holidays.

There will be plenty of ferries this week, so this afternoon I tried the around-the-sound route! I correctly surmised that I could make the -8 minute ST 595 to KT Purdy Ride connection.

Helping my cousin see her train options from NYC to Hartford Saturday reminded me how far we have to go on coordination:
- @amtrak.com app provides schedules and tickets but only for Amtrak trains
- @mtametronorth.bsky.social TrainTime app has schedules and tickets but only for MNR to New Haven
