Fascinating piece on how AI may well think more like us than we’d like to believe. And why that’s both groundreaking and curiously sad. www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...

I've finally got around to curating a selection of films about the #climate crisis 🎥

There's lot of mediocre climate films out there, but for me these stand out head & shoulders above the rest 🎞️

They make excellent resources for classrooms, lecture halls, or community cinema's 🎬

Joburg Market guided smallholder farmers on accessing markets, meeting product standards, and connecting directly with industry experts. The initiative reinforces Joburg Market’s role in promoting inclusive growth and strengthening South Africa’s food systems.
Joburg Market empowers small-scale farmers with market training
Small-scale farmers are gaining new opportunities to thrive in the competitive fresh produce sector through Joburg Market’s inaugural market access and product standards awareness session. This key initiative under the City of Johannesburg’s farm-to-market campaign offered hands-on guidance on trading floor operations, packaging and grading standards, certification requirements, and direct engagement with market stakeholders. Held in partnership with the Food Resilience Programme, the session aimed to open new market opportunities for smallholder farmers while promoting community food security. Farmers engaged directly with market agents, quality assurance officials, and agribusiness experts, gaining practical insights into trading floor operations, packaging and grading standards, commission structures, and certification requirements.

At the core of transmisogyny is, inevitably, misogyny itself. The viciousness with which some people trash trans women for how they look, or their supposed artificiality, or perceived errors in their behaviour, comes from a fundamental loathing of any women who doesn’t conform to their expectations.
Graham Linehan once took issue with a sketch I did and tweeted about me referring to me not by name but only as to who my boyfriend was and called me an NPC ( non player character.) It was misogynistic and his “standing up for women” schtick is baloney.

I think this underscores the issue with the entire premise of making everyone get a degree just to do well in life: most people are not scholars. Not even wannabe scholars. They do not and have never seen a degree as more than a paper for a bigger paycheque and you can’t make them.
“Massive numbers of students are going to emerge from university with degrees, and into the workforce, who are essentially illiterate…Both in the literal sense and in the sense of being historically illiterate and having no knowledge of their own culture, much less anyone else’s.”

Short thread on restoration and retrofit of our 17th century former farmhouse in Shropshire, UK. So much learning about managing natural moisture from ground, ambient air, human occupancy. Everything breathable, much of the added insulation applied externally to help keep walls warm and dry ../1

The media has failed to expose why Musk backs AfD.

Read Musk’s own posts about his Mars plan in this 🧵
If AfD does well in the German election today, blame the journalists and politicians who missed its obvious similarity with Trump and failed to ask the right questions about its backer Elon Musk.

Read Musk’s posts on X and put them to AfD and Reform UK.⬇️
