My mother is watching odd XMas movies & I was having breakfast with her. Some woman at a party says "I'm studying [XMas decorations] at the Plaza" & people laugh at her.

& I'm immediately like: "That's an extremely interesting topic in terms of cultural & economic history?" :|

The audacity!

Henry Kissinger did not live a full century & die peacefully in his Connecticut mansion, only to have his sanctification as patron saint to genocidaires undermined & his name & legacy maligned by a milquetoast centrist like Anne Applebaum.

The Beacon of Democracy Goes Dark
For nearly 250 years, America promoted freedom and equality abroad, even when it failed to live up to those ideals itself. Not anymore.

It's really hard to get even a well-tailored suit to look "good" on me,¹ but this (kinda²) works? 🤔

A friend made a joke about Vaporeon.
I assumed it was something wholesome like the trans affection for Sylveon because of its colour scheme.

I was very wrong and now feel strongly that amoebae deserve their shot at building a better world after a nuclear winter.¹

finally got to this today, and just so grateful for Kelly's words. I think a lot about how my own father might see me in this moment, and how I'd communicate my actions in this moment to him
I wrote a very personal essay about two conversations—one with my father decades ago and one with a stranger a few weeks ago amid the upheaval of Trump 2.0.

Literally one of the few things AI is semi-decent for, if you don't obsess over little details like consistency in the placement of persons.

It is interesting, though, that it was virtually impossible to get Nethanyahu and Trump to switch places or make him look the proper way, despite reference.
Two memes I felt compelled to make earlier today.

Presented without further comment. 🤷

I feel typecast, if in an entirely fair manner: sent a friend a photo from my father's wake and she replied with "You chose that watch and pen because they're matte black, didn't you?"

Well... yes. :S

Yesterday, I published an analysis of what I could publicly find about TM SGNL, the obscure and unofficial Signal app used by Mike Waltz, and presumably also by Pete Hegseth, JD Vance, Tulsi Gabbard, ...

Revenge of the Sith is kind of funny in a meta sense now because grown adults look at focus group tested slop and are like “this shit is too political, unlike the movies of my childhood where Darth Vader choked his wife then looked at the camera and directly quoted George W. Bush.”

I was 28 in 2016 and this is an insane characterization of what growing up as a white man in my cohort was like. Demonstrative of how out-of-touch the cultural right is with actual American life www.theredneckintellectual.com/p/right-wing...

This is something I've also lamented. I understand perfectly why it turned out like this, but we genuinely, desperately, need more authoritative words on the questions of compliance and consequences for breach.
Emphasizes the narrow framing of the question (which to be fair I kind of agree with) and that there should be no opinion offered on any questions of compliance or consequences for breach

This is such a good piece and such an interesting phenomenon. He looks healthy & happy in both pics, and it’s his body to wear how he likes. But it doesn’t surprise me at all that the male gaze and female gaze diverge so sharply on which photo is more appealing.
The latest batshit internet scandal is men accusing women of “lying” when stating a preference for Ollie Murs’ before pic.

So I unpacked all that

That’s some really bad public relations work by the ICC. How is a laymen supposed to understand this press release on the Netanyahu/Gallant/Israel/Palestine issue? I meant, even I don’t really understand it without further research and I do this for a living.

It's rather interesting to see the Israeli nationalist PR playbook copied this closely by the Hindutva movement.

The Hindutva have done this before, but this is a particularly striking example based on "lessons learned" and the recent post October 2023 Israeli Hasbara playbook.

In other words, anywhere the outcome of a policy is discriminatory, but you can't prove racist intent.
