Tepid take: I am not going to give $20 a month to some guy with a newsletter to tell me what I want to hear and consider that journalism. When all that stands between a draft and an audience is a publish button, there is no accountability to truth, only to their wallet.

I don't care what side of the Israel-Palestine conflict your sympathies lie on, snatching up people with a valid student visa for the crime of writing an OpEd is naked fascism and if you don't oppose this you are a threat to this country's most basic values
Video of the international student at Tufts being arrested by "federal authorities" in Massachusetts has been released and it's terrifying.

They're not even uniformed officers. Just secret police thugs in hoodies and masks.

Democrats are fundamentally misunderstanding the moment: We're not asking them to be *legislators* right now. We need them to be *politicians.*

There's nothing to be done about the legislative situation. They're right about that. But there's PLENTY to be done as politicians.
CNN: Is democratic leadership is doing enough?

SENATOR JACKY ROSEN: I think that we have to realize that we're in the minority. They have the White House, they have the House, and they have the Senate. So the tools that are available to us here as legislators...they are limited.

An uninformed opinion: The strange thing is that he only has power because of the constitution. If he undermines the constitution, he undermines his own power.

It’s all just words on a page enforced by institutions, if the institutions crumble, so does the mechanism by which he has power.

Flip it on him. “Elon is using his social media platform to to threaten and attack anyone who acknowledges his crimes and the crimes of his sham government department that threatens to destabilize our country” if he wants to play the victim let’s play the bigger victim.

Rewatching the Theranos documentary - a good reminder that the startup model of making young and inexperienced people do things because the experienced and knowledgeable say it’s a bad idea or can’t be done ends in massive fraud and failure.

Tesla earned $2.3 billion in the United States in 2024.

You'd think it paid a lot in taxes, right?

Well it paid precisely $0 in federal income taxes last year.

You want waste and fraud? Look at what some big corporations and the rich are getting away with.
Tesla Paid Zero Federal Income Tax in 2024, Despite $2.3 Billion in Income
This brings Tesla’s average tax rate over the past three years to 0.4 percent.

Just spitballing, but things that could happen today:
*Court injunction protecting USAID
*Dems demand hearings on Musk's role
*Someone introduce articles of impeachment
*Dem officeholders go to USAID offices with USAID workers
*Refuse to conduct any more Senate confirmations until this is resolved

1/ OK, Democratic members of Congress in the US Senate. It’s time for some tough love.

I am aware your pollsters and consultants tell you things like “the American people want us to work together” and “ focus on prescription drug prices in the economy.”

Compared with any other major country, the United States has been extremely fortunate in its two immediate neighbors, Canada and Mexico.

Now, incredibly, it is declaring economic war on both of them. This is a war no one can win, and from which tens of millions will lose.

This is insanity.

A reminder that the US government and its executive only exist because of the US Constitution. To paraphrase Thomas Paine, the Constitution is not an act of government, but an act of the People. Trump is accountable to us, We hold the power.

Literally the least they can do. And it would at least be something.
yes. that is literally what they should be doing. and not the 'deny cloture' kind of fillibuster. they should not let a single bill or amendment proceed without hours and hours of debate.

how have any of you lived through republicans doing this and not learned it? it works.
The eff's he gonna do, filibuster everything that gets to the senate? MAGA has all of congress, his options are pretty limited.
