Israel for the past six months: we will work to prevent the new Syrian government from having any authority in the south

I was so disgusted by the message and tone, I didn't even notice the ignorance.

And say thank you! I'm better than you in everything, my mom said so.
Marco Rubio wants Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski and by extension the Polish people to be thankful, or else Russians would be already on the Polish border.

I will not elaborate much that Russia actually shares a border with Poland.

Waking up Monday morning and Swedish radio is having a well informed debate on whether Sweden should obtain a nuclear weapon.

Very useful thread by Garvan on Europe's dependence on American military goods and services.

(And to be blunt, Politico's headline isn't merely misleading, it is false.)
The SIPRI dataset excludes domestic procurement

@politico.eu your headline is misleading. The US dominates arms *imports*

US dependence is a real issue but let’s address it properly, particularly with reference to rumours about spare parts, ITAR and “kill switches”🧵
🚨🚨More bad news: European NATO members have become even more dependent on U.S. weapons than before, according to a report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) released today.🧵 www.politico.eu/article/us-d...

Sort of like Munich 1938, with the following changes:

-Czechoslovakia is invited
-Britain & France are not
-The negotiation is moderated by Mussolini
-Czechoslovakia has to pay Mussolini
-Hitler bombs Prague during the negotiation
-Mussolini threatens to help Hitler if Czechoslovakia doesn't sign
🇺🇦 Ukraine will likely make it clear to the U.S. that any peace deal restricting its rearmament, forcing recognition of occupied territories as Russian, or interfering in internal politics—such as pushing for elections—is unacceptable, Economist writes.

I would guess intel & aid flow will at least partly resume in coming days. But plausible some restrictions on long-range strikes will remain. And damage is done. Imagine how this would play out for, say, NATO forces who need to strike deep in a hypothetical battle to reverse Ru advances in Baltics.

1/ Only the EU could be surprised by the predictable behavior of others (putin, Trump) while being utterly predictable itself. They waste time accommodating Trump, thinking they can win him over with polite diplomacy. He couldn’t care less. He’s a disruptor, not a dealmaker.

Europe is far past the point of ‘mending’ ties with the US. If we don’t act as an equal partner in NATO, make Trump work to regain our trust, and demand an apology, we’re doomed to be vassals in a world divided between empires.
Some thoughts from Brussels. Europe is awoken and believes America is all but gone. As such huge efforts on defense funding from EU, Germany, and others. This is real. BUT...

Europe is still not reckoning yet with its major structural security problem: No one does European defense. 1/

Nice hint…
💬 This included our cooperation in defense, in which specifically military acquisitions, such as K2 tanks, K9 howitzers, K239 rocket artillery or FA-50 jets to name a few, plays a vital role.

Worth stating simply what’s happening. An American government is launching a full-scope political & economic assault on an ally repelling an ongoing invasion to compel them to terminate martial law, topple their president, hand over minerals to America & accept a ceasefire w/out security guarantees.

(1/3) It needs repeating: in 1994, Ukraine was persuaded to give up its nuclear weapons to Russia in return for the US, the UK, and Russia guaranteeing Ukraine’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.

If only words were actions. A genocidal war criminal cannot, must not, and will not be appeased. The only question is whether we stand up to him in Kyiv or in Normandy.

With everything going on with #Ukraine, zero attention is paid to #Gaza, where Trump's tactic is the same: speak as outrageously and brutally as he can, pushing lazy countries to take charge, setting the stage for a US retreat. He couldn't care less about what he destroys.
