AI tools now help Goldman Sachs bankers and other white-collar workers quickly answer complex questions, summarize dense docs, refine writing, and brainstorm ideas.

The big question: does this boost productivity or just pave the way for layoffs? In tech, the answer’s already clearly the latter.

Had my first Waymo ride in Atlanta today. It’s interesting noting how much angst there used to be about Uber replacing drivers with self driving cars, which itself seemed like science fiction.

Now it’s a mundane reality and the backlash seems like a fever dream. This AI adoption pattern will repeat

Scientists have long insisted that we can and must limit global warming to 1.5 degrees—a grim milestone one activist group calls a “point of no return.” But one problem with points of no return is that they don’t tell you much about what comes afterward.
Is There Still Time to Be Hopeful About the Climate?
Scientists have long insisted that we can and must limit global warming to 1.5 degrees—and some still do, even as that grim milestone nears.

The Twitter platform is built to keep people on it. It does not drive traffic virtually at all, even in its hayday, and it's even worse now.

There's no reason to stay on it.

Intel’s new CEO doesn’t mince words and he’s given an honest yet devastating assessment of the company.

1. Intel is no longer in the top 10 semiconductor companies in the world.

2. Nvidia is too far ahead in AI chips for them to catch.

Both true and an auspicious start to Intel’s turnaround story
Intel’s CEO: ‘We are not in the top 10’ of leading chip companies
"I think is too late for us" to catch up with Nvidia's position in AI, said Lip-Bu Tan. But he said Intel has other opportunities in the field.

Someone sat on Bitcoin they bought flor $7,800 in 2011 and sold it yesterday for $1.1 billion.

I have to believe this is a lost password situation since it’s hard to imagine sitting on an investment that went up a 100x, 1,000x, 10,000x then 100,000x but still wait years to sell.

I hung out with some friends this morning and noticed we were all wearing HOKA shoes not Nike’s.

It reminded me of this week’s excellent Stratechery post on Nike’s strategic error. Basically they were fooled by COVID to abandon retail stores for selling online. This created an opportunity for HOKA.
Nike on Amazon; Nike’s Disastrous Pivot; Inevitability, Intentionality, and Amazon
Nike executed a disastrous pivot over recent years, away from physical retail to D2C. Now they have no choice but to embrace Amazon, but that might be the best thing that could happen to them.

The same dynamic is unfolding at the international level.

Attacks on the UN, ICJ, ICC, and legacy media are creating an alternate reality for those who prefer to live in it, and creating enough confusion to keep others from taking a stand.
We built 20th-century democracies on the assumption that truth could be verified, public discourse could be deliberated, and those in power could be held accountable.
But the system those assumptions relied on, gatekeepers, shared facts, institutional trust, are in decline, and deservedly so.
