John Snow and safe street stan. Lover of 17th to 19th century cities but with more trees and less cholera. Not official record.
The eyes are the lamp of the body. People usually see and judge others by their own intentions and actions. People of good will working to repair the world will assume the best about others. People who are lying, cheating and scheming for power and pleasure will see malice and bad faith everywhere.
the reason that the right believes that the left is entirely astroturf funded by USAID and USIP is that this is how their own institutions work

There is no moral equivalence between bullies and the bullied, between tyranny and democracy, or between brutality and decency. No individual can be free in a society devoid of justice. There can be no liberty where brutality reigns.

it is incredible to see the extent to which the Sensible Centrists are simply incapable of grasping the very simple and obvious fact that the president's concern with crime is a pretext, and that to deny claims of a sudden epidemic in crime is not to say that crime is nonexistent.

The core tenet of motordom is that the convenience of the driver must be prioritized over all other considerations including the health, prosperity, safety and even lives of other people; especially those traveling outside of a car. This hegemony is baked into policies and engineering standards.
Final votes are 15 commissioners in favor of the trail closure, 2 opposed, and 1 abstaining. A minimum of 14 votes was needed to pass this, so sadly it means the motion is approved and the bridge trail will be closed 4 days a week for 3 years starting possibly this October.

Just my luck that Derek Guy starts to weigh in on something other than menswear and it’s not women’s wear. 😭

Anyways, he’s as good at architecture as he is at fashion.
the lack of crispness in the detailing of this is so funny to me. truly Temu level shit

There are so few places in the United States, even in older cities well served by transit, where it is possible to walk without continual exposure to noise, pollution and risk of blunt force trauma from automobiles.

Pedestrian/bike only infrastructure is the best way to protect people from cars.

"We're all throwing dildos at women athletes to promote our memecoin" really puts a fine point on not just how sexist, mean and stupid so much of right now is, but also the grim degree to which we're just inundated with Stuff a 15-Year-Old Dipshit Would Think is Cool. A confederacy of Beavises.

In the US we can’t even rationalize agricultural water policy so I don’t see this happening.

As an alternative, discouraging lawns and encouraging pollinator plants (or human habitats such as ADUs and apartments) would go far in supporting local bee populations and preserving their habitats.

We should have the House right now. Let me say it again: we should have the House.

This ain’t just a Texas problem, it’s a national problem. They’re stealing seats to keep power, and that’s how we ended up with Speaker Johnson instead of Speaker Jeffries.

They can’t win fair, so they cheat.

Cadillac Desert is my top recommended book for anyone in California because it quickly brings two profound realizations:
1. Everything around you is an amazing and rickety engineering marvel
2. All of the seemingly unfixable problems with it evaporate if we simply stop massively subsidizing ag water
This take is correct. In California, the true third rail of politics is rationalizing agricultural water policy.
my corniest take is that agriculture land use is an all-time serious challenge

Think about what the GOP is revealing with their attempt to suddenly change the Congressional maps: they know their agenda is so unpopular that they're going to lose unless something changes.

Of course, what they should be changing is their policies, not the maps.

The details from a whistleblower complaint emerged hours before a final vote on Bove’s nomination to a federal judgeship.

I’m not an activist, but as someone who reports on people who are, I see some activists sneering at people who are late to a cause they’ve fought hard for. Surely the point of activism is pitching to the centre to make change? Not alienating or mocking those whose minds you surely wanted to change?
