Imagine a world where every company is run democratically by its workers. What if we aligned responsibility and rights to create a fairer economy?

What a Canadian ownership agenda should really look like.

Canadians can't really be masters in our own home if that home is owned by a US hedge fund run by one of Trump's allies.

Mark Carney’s economic agenda misses something vital
So far, the prime minister's strategy for Canadians to own more of our economy is thin.

Actual democracy would include democracy in the workplace, which capitalism tries to kill at every angle.

imo democracy in society is easier to exercise when you have democracy in the workplace, because like anything else, it's easier when you understand a process on a fundamental and personal level to exercise it elsewhere
question for the liberal mind: Can inequality be resolved within a system that depends on private ownership of the means of production? Can democracy function when the economy is undemocratic?

Economic democracy is obviously *required* to sustain a political one, because without it the people with the money will constantly try to destroy political democracy.

Love to see every single private equity/asset management company expropriated, the businesses it owns converted to worker co-ops, shares handed over to worker collectives in the relevant firms, and real estate turned over to local land trusts managed by the residents.

There’s a connection here as to why Trump supporters believe the country should be run like a business - autocratically, with the working class unable to affect outcomes to their benefit.

So when you hear someone say they’re against unionization, understand that they’re against democracy as well.
Capitalism’s employer-employee contract is inherently anti-democratic because it’s alienation-based, unlike delegation-based contracts that democracy favors. In an employment contract, the employer manages the firm in their own name, not as a delegate of the workers.

the refusal of center left institutional types to recognize that sometimes they're the ones who have to compromise in an election makes me really mad

the people who I find myself allied with when they're right about electoral compromise won't do it when the shoe is on the other foot

While i oppose market economies and much prefer Democratically Planned economies alongside Participatory Worker Cooperatives to eliminate the possibility of the accumulation of capital, this could still help people learn who are caught up on the notion of markets.

Before discussing politics, I like to administer _The Test_.

The Test is simple, and should be easy to pass, simply ask:

"Which is more important:
1. Human Rights
2. Property Rights"

There is one unambiguous, simple, correct answer. If they fail The Test, I don't talk politics with them.

One major problem with utilitarianism is that it can't rule out a totalitarian society where people have been indoctrinated to prefer their oppression. Utilitarians, who see freedom as an instrumental end, aren't defenders of liberty

#Economics is deeply flawed as it doesn’t aim to accurately describe how the economy functions, even in idealized scenarios. Metaphors are considered profound truths, while simple facts about property rights are viewed as superficial. Economics relies on controversial ethical assumptions.

Amartya Sen's liberal paradox shows a tension between collective efficiency and individual freedom/ #liberalism.

Essentially, it states that there is a contradiction between the following principles.

1. If everyone prefers A over B, A is socially preferable to B.
