A reintroduction as more people seem to be here.
We're a small independent coffee company with 5 full time staff. We've brought coffees to Ireland from producers who are genuinely among world's best. The business however was always meant to be about more than just selling coffee for profit.
For as long as I remember I've carried at best a low level of anxiety even in the happiest moments. This year I've tried to do something about it. Not cure alls by any means but I now run 3 times a week (only 5k), meditate for 10 mins each day and also do some resonance breathing. All have helped.

Was out of work 17 years ago, watched a documentary about coffee farmers and trade unions and decided to start a coffee business. It was a big struggle for a long time. Really grateful we got mentioned yesterday in Irish Times 50 great brands. Never underestimate timing, dumb luck and persistence.

I once knew a Federal bank examiner, and one time someone asked him why we had to KEEP inspecting banks over and over. He basically said every new batch of business school grads invents bank fraud from first principles.
AirBnB CEO calling it “vibe revenue” just 👨‍🍳 😘

The underlying cause of every bubble - debt masquerading as financial innovation - depends on not just short financial memory & speculative neophytism, but reinventing jargon of finance, like how each generation of kids has new ways to say same things.

I’ve mentioned Ashenafi Argaw of Ardent a few times. Buying his coffee for years. Exceptional quality in product but also as a human. He founded centres to look after orphaned kids & just built a school. Yesterday he was announced as the 1st ever president of Ethiopia’s Specialty Coffee Association.

Never underestimate the influence of PR companies in terms of what you get to read in the newspapers. I assume most industries are very similar to how it works in food. I've been told it's often just laziness but it's essentially low level corruption.

When we began roasting almost 8 years ago, one big aim was to bring a level of coffee (the very top tier), that just wasn't available in Ireland. I hope we've continued to do that. Mikava are one of the world's producers and have the awards to prove it. imbibe.ie/collections/...
