and the really cool thing about this is, doing things to help other people is one of the most effective ways to push back against a creeping sense of powerlessness

i know it’s cheesy to say “helping others is its own reward,” but it’s also extremely true!

we’re never powerless while we’re helping.

A spicy take: “great literature” isn’t great for kids if it turns them off reading, as the constant parade of misery in the curriculum does.

I know it does. My whole job was to talk to “reluctant readers”.

All, most of you know by now what happened to me in February.

I've written an essay about this for @harpersbazaar.uol.com.br.web.brid.gy, and I hope you'll give it a read:
All The Women I Met in Jail
A law meant to help victims of domestic violence often results in their arrest. One woman details surviving abuse and the system that claimed to protect her.

#WomensHistoryMonth: The City of Women Map is a fascinating visualization of women’s history and urban transportation. Created by Molly Roy, Rebecca Solnit, and Joshua Jelly-Schapiro, the map renames subway stops after notable women with links to that area, offering an entirely new way to view #NYC.
