If you invented a robot that sometimes cleaned my house really well & quickly & saved me lots of work—but *often* just moved things around without really cleaning—& *sometimes* added germs *to* the surfaces—such that just to be safe, I always had to clean after it

I don’t think I’d buy that robot

The irony here is painful.

Alice Wong wrote a column for Vogue called Disability Visibility. You can still find all her writing for Vogue under her author name.

But *Disability Visibility* - also the name of the advocacy group she launched - has been erased.

Exactly how disabled people often are.
The new owners of Teen Vogue have already erased her column.

Every time I post anything negative about AI, there’s always someone in my mentions “have you used RAG”,
“Are you using the latest model that was released 2 hours ago”. I fucking presented on RAG yesterday. LLMs are an interesting tool, but not a trillion dollar industry. I swear it’s like crypto.

In our latest PowerShell Podcast episode, I got to chat with its creator @toastit.dev about finally hitting version 1.0 after a decade of community love and iteration.

One of the many things that gets me about the Louvre password is you KNOW there are a bunch of world-weary sysadmins who gave up the fight years ago bc administrators kept complaining about a real password being TOO HARD & now they're simultaneously like 'I fucking TOLD YOU' & also in huge trouble.

Brad Gerstner, an OpenAI investor, asks Sam Altman how a company with $13 billion in revenue can afford to make $1.4 trillion in commitments. Altman responds by offering to find buyers for Gerstner’s shares if he no longer believes in OpenAI.

He then says that device & cloud businesses will be huge

I can't think of a single other time that an ostensible engineering productivity tool has needed to be forced into adoption like this so widely across the industry. It's like if everybody were mandating Git or Kubernetes uptake as part of performance reviews.
It seems like the only way tech companies are able to compel AI usage is by coercion in performance review processes?

"Friends" is a beloved American sitcom that aired from 1994 to 2004, following six young adults—Rachel, Ross, Monica, Chandler, Joey, and Phoebe—living in New York City. The show explores their friendships, romances, careers, and personal growth over ten seasons.

I personally am significantly more worried about the effects of LLMs and AI video slop on children’s brain development than I am about even social media. I am very worried that our school systems and laws are pushing kids toward AI artificial “friends” while banning social apps.
Yeah I think there are going to be more families who do the equivalent of “we don’t own a TV, we simply all sing madrigals around the piano by candlelight for entertainment” during these next decades. There isn’t a safe amount of AI slop for kids to be exposed to. So if a platform has it: then no.
NB TikTok is totally blocked on my kids’ devices, but thanks to the fact all their videos are fully downloadable (how is THAT legal) it’s inescapable - all big websites are now video scrolling services, even Spotify etc, and they’re all full of TikTok slop

I've only ever fired one person during my career. Guy on first month probation expressed his disgust over my "treating the canteen staff like regular colleagues" the very first time we had lunch together. Easiest decision I had to take during my short stint as a manager.
You should sever any relationship, including a close friendship, with someone who is rude to waitstaff.
Do you have any extremely niche, but serious, ethical stances?

Where is the retribution for Israel breaking the ceasefire? Or are we all just pretending it’s not happening and waiting for Hamas to do something so Israel’s massacre of Palestinians can pick up the pace again?
BREAKING: The bodies of 29 Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks have been brought to Gaza's hospitals over the past 24 hours, reports the health ministry.
