I like cooking, baking, and Danny DeVito walking tiny dachshunds in cute dresses.

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

In today’s episode of What Are They Thinking: “If you don’t see a hurricane coming… does it really exist?”

🚨 The Dept of Defense is shutting down its weather satellite program. No more data. No more updates. Meteorologists are scrambling—and we’re heading into peak storm season.

Brilliant timing.

I’ve never forgotten this picture from 2016 and how it completely reshaped my understanding of how the media covers protests.
But if a few people in masks start lighting stuff on fire? Then you have news. This creates an *enormous* attentional advantage towards the most violent and chaotic kind of protest.

This video is making the rounds again for a reason.

A great example of how you make your voices heard—without saying a word. Power in numbers and it sends a clear message. This is what democracy looks like: standing up to fascism, tyranny, and racism.

This is the way!

Republicans don’t want more “parents” at home. They want women at home, out of the public sphere, economically dependent on men for their whole lives— permanently relegated to second class citizens.

Fixed it for you, NYT.

there really is no alternative to tearing up CBP and ICE root and branch
A US citizen with a learning disability who has just suffered a medical emergency asks a CBP officer for directions outside the emergency room. He ends up detained in an icebox for ten days and has the assistant secretary of DHS lying about him to the public at large. popular.info/p/us-citizen...

🧵 THREAD: A federal whistleblower just dropped one of the most disturbing cybersecurity disclosures I’ve ever read.

He's saying DOGE came in, data went out, and Russians started attempting logins with new valid DOGE passwords

Media's coverage wasn't detailed enough so I dug into his testimony:

One thing I wish people understood about authoritarianism is life often looks more or less the same. Troops aren’t marching down the street every day; people go to restaurants, have their office jobs. But everyone knows that stepping out of line, even slightly, can derail your life with no recourse

we are going to need to put all of these people in prison for the rest of their lives and everybody needs to start acting that way

this cannot be fixed in 2026 or 2028 or ever without the comprehensive political will to do so

So from my uniquely weird perspective after living in the UK through Brexit, being in India during Modi's demonetization, and living in Brazil when the real tanked during the Bolsonaro administration, I can confidentally say that Americans do not and can not understand how bad this is going to be.
Every damned word of this 4-graf brief, except “By WSJ Staff,” should scare the bejeesus out of you this morning.

Does the Privacy Act not exist anymore?

It is bewildering how many laws which governed basic public sector practices for decades are being ignored.

Feels like this would have been a great opportunity for another Senate Dem to, you know, do something. Like object.
No objections to Risch’s unanimous consent motion, not even from @schatz.bsky.social.

Yes. I do not want to ever 'move on' again. Every time we turn the cheek, overlook the criminality, absolve the sins, they come back worse.

I want punishment. Deterrence. Retribution. Err on the side of excess, not lenity.

Anything less is asking them to come back worse yet again.
Democrats should be running on:

“I will specifically make life hell for these specific rich bigoted white man criminals with mouths that look like inflamed assholes.”

every day I look at pete hegseth's crime-ass face and I realize it is another step closer to us being able to literally run on "I will put every one of these motherfuckers in jail, vote democrat 202(6|8)"

It is hard to describe the president’s first month and a half in office as something other than a retribution campaign against the American people.
