For that, you've got to look to the Senate's century long commitment to ensuring that Black Americans could be legally lynched. I am not being hyperbolic. Because in 1922, the House passed legislation to make lynching a federal crime. naacp.org/find-resourc...

If we want to stop the kidnappings and these agents require anonymity to commit these actions, then we must remove the masks.
So long as we allow masked law enforcement to terrorize people, we cannot be a democracy.

I’ve come to believe that we need to gather considerable forces and a campaign to demand the removal of face masks by ICE, Border Patrol, FBI and police.
It is a practice in conflict with the principles of transparency & accountability that are central to the concept of democracy.

They’re wearing masks so they can’t be prosecuted later. As long as they think they can’t be prosecuted, their crimes will intensify. They will torture, starve and kill, as they have already, on greater and greater scale.

Eve when the NYT doesn’t have a clear ideological axe to grind, its perceived value as a news org is inversely proportional to how familiar you are to whatever subject it’s reporting on.

whatever you think of Spanberger, the fact that her opponent ran a campaign based almost entirely on transphobia and is on track to eat shit in the biggest blowout the state has seen since 2009 is unambiguously a huge win
Earle-Sears ran what felt like 12 billion ads about how much she hated trans kids and I didn’t hear a single pundit say she should stick to real issues that affect real people.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Democrat Abigail Spanberger wins Virginia governor’s race.

Hey NYT, what is “the threat”?
To be blunter about it, the opinion pages of the New York Times are precisely one of the places where we have been failed.
If the NYT Editorial Board wants to talk about complacency, they should start by looking in a mirror.
Even this warning is mealy-mouthed and flawed.

I think that not only can the average voter not really describe with any accuracy how a given policy works or who advocates for what policies, they could not accurately describe what a "policy" is, conceptually
i don’t think you can maximin vote share with polls and spreadsheets, and i think it is a problem that the most prominent and influential political commentators right now are more devotees of data than experts in narrative
