Trump's city-crime narrative leans on encoded stereotypes of largely Black cities. OUT TODAY @polbehavior.bsky.social, @kevintmorris.bsky.social and I show Black cities were also the epicenter of the 2020 election fraud narrative. Republicans and Racially resentful Whites were most susceptible.

I live in Tennessee's 7th district with the Aftyn Behn special election. Just got the neighborhood social pressure treatment and some new "compared to others in the state" one. Neat

Someone asked me what my "last meal" would be and I immediately answered, "One of the pardoned Thanksgiving Turkeys." I have never felt so clever, funny, and quick witted.

Humans evolved strong mechanisms for evaluating credibility. Yet these depend on an information ecosystem rich in trustworthy institutions and credible choices. The question is whether we can rebuild this epistemic infrastructure before norms of authenticity decay beyond repair, writes John Wihbey.

On 9/10 votes, these individuals would vote the same way. But intra-party perceptions of what moderate/progressive sides stand for are probably way more polarized. Probably a publication here. Attribute progressive policies to moderates and measure percieved authenticity and favorability. Neat.
democrats love all their moderate, progressive, and top-of-the-distribution leaders <3
they can all live in harmony together under a big diverse tent if they restore regional party identities and stop the circular firing squad on nationalized media <3

Tomorrow, SCOTUS will hear arguments in Louisiana v. Callais, a major threat to (what remains of) the 1965 Voting Rights Act. But this isn't the first time the VRA has faced dire threats; in 2013 and 2021, SCOTUS weakened other provisions. We can learn from those why Callais could be so dangerous 🧵

In 2024, the media played defense for Trump's denials of revolving door politics/connectedness to Project 2025. Turns my stomach on the regular.
Shot/chaser

@adambonica.bsky.social, yesterday, "shutdowns favor GOP-leaning agencies and harm liberal ones." substack.com/home/post/p-...

Trump, today, "The shutdown gives me the opportunity to inflict devastating harm on my political adversaries' government-aligned interests [paraphrased]."

1. We do not know the motive of the shooter. The man who shot at Trump was after attention.
2. The man who murdered MN legislators WAS motivated by politics, and I didn’t hear any Dems calling for reprisals against all Repubs.
3. It’s easy to start a cycle of violence. Not easy to end one.
Very, very bad stuff coming from leading right-wingers

Amazing. Am I reading this right. Democrats' satisfaction with "how things are going" is basically just measurement error.
A 76% point gap between how satisfied Republicans are with the country versus how satisfied Democrats are. The largest partisan gap ever. news.gallup.com/poll/694370/...

Trump's ham-handed voting restrictions are a poor solution to a manufactured and racialized issue of voter/election fraud. Receipts here, in paper form: link.springer.com/article/10.1...

Anyone else using GroupMe for your classes? I'm a week in and it's already paying dividends by keeping my inbox cleaner and letting students chime in with helpful links and answering syllabus/reading questions. Also, my students voted on my office hours candy selection.

Swamped with first week of class things, but overwhelmingly glad Kevin and the Rush el al scholars have their eye on the ball regarding the on-going attacks on voting rights in America. Read, cite, and maybe even assign these papers in your seminars. Rigorous and important work!

I was thrown an additional prep this week (yay!?). Need newish book about organized interest in the U.S.? Could be on labor, business, think tanks, etc. Could have ramifications for elections, representation, inequality, etc. If it's been on any of the poli sci book podcasts all the better. Thanks!
