Lots of great signs today at No Kings in Nashville. If I had to boil it down to two, it would be these...

In Office Hours. Made a meme explaining how I feel about some research I'm working on.

Academia is great. I read a paper, edited a lecture, and ate my dog's leftover birthday cake for breakfast. Off to teach.

Time line cleanser. Rory turned 3 yesterday. Baked cake and barista knew her fav is watermelon. People signed a card. Some things are still good.

Anyone else using GroupMe for your classes? I'm a week in and it's already paying dividends by keeping my inbox cleaner and letting students chime in with helpful links and answering syllabus/reading questions. Also, my students voted on my office hours candy selection.

Voter Study group data from 2018. Abortion attitudes positively correlated with sexism. Regardless of party. Its about control over women.

Does the Big Beautiful Bill at least outlaw Doorbells and Dog Barks from TV and Movies? Asking for this over reactive guard dog.

Happy Anniversary to my cycling heatmap, where you can visually see me getting angier and faster (orange) when I was alerted that Roe was overturned.

Happy Friday to everyone. Except Rory, who doesn't know she's getting a bath today.

Since it's relevant for literally just tonight, here's a throwback to me as Thénardier in Les Miserables back in College. So fun.

I don't know anything about soccer...but here's my idea. Each time a team scores, their goal post gets bigger and the losing team's post gets smaller. Like a fun handicap.

Stacking a fun Book on top of a political science book is now my new favorite meme.

First TT year in the books. I lived in 4 different places, taught a million new preps, accidentally went to a Green Day concert (fav band), got a paper accepted (led by the exceptional @kevintmorris.bsky.social), made new MPSA friends, flagged a lot of Chat GPT, and missed my dog. Off to get her.

After all the AI papers I had to deal with this year, I'm breaking my own taboo. But just this once.

The Trump administration is specifically targeting professional researchers who study inequalities caused by threatened groups and poor institutional design. People who study how misinformation skews our views of one another and reality. The administration is attacking truth and justice.

Someone told me Trump isn't fascist because we don't have death camps yet. I responded that you can still be fascist without meeting the maximal definition of the term. Then I punctuated with, "you know someone is an Animorph even if they haven't completely turn into a giant squid yet."
