granted, i am a giant dumb idiot, but I am doing open enrollment thru my employer and am learning about some new thing called an "EPO" plan which is allegedly not a PPO or an HMO, but seems like an HMO? yes, obviously i live in America.

thinking about how hard some folks have to work and be 2x or 3x as good while fighting for scraps in the margins, and these guys are doing infinite adolescence and stepping on land mines every other word while getting the world as their playground

This is the writing workshop I have run with three friends since 2018; we are always open to new members and if you're scribbling away in isolation in southeast London knock that off and come scribble away with us!
But all that is to say success is an elusive goal and the friends you make along the way are more important (sick-making, but true). We work hard to be an inclusive, welcoming and supportive group and we're really proud of our positive little community and we think you'd like it too

I finally placed what this reminded me of. It's Hannah Arendt's banality of evil.
I was trying to think about the staggering depth to which you have to be morally corrupt to talk about things like this in such a casual matter-of-fact manner and have it not alter your subsequent behavior.

I used to fly a ton of United, and while they have many good direct routes, I stopped trying for the higher statuses because the spend vs. reward wasn't worth it and the service became very mid.

It’s not just that Trump is personally a rapist, though there’s lots of credible evidence to suggest that he is. It’s that he is promoting a fundamentally pro-rape ideology, and that the permissiveness for rape and entitlement to rape that are core to his worldview are central to his appeal for men.
