Finding Google’s NotebookLM super helpful when decoding board game rules in other languages. (EN when playing with Japanese friends)

Today, we conducted another playtest session for the fish auction game. Inspired by my visit to the GameMarket yesterday, I’m pleased with the new element we introduced into the game. Feeling good

Looks like the newly announced Figma Buzz could be used as a handy card prototyping tool. I haven't tried it, but it has layers, CSV support, and bulk export.

The board game industry is hurting, livelihoods are being lost and some original games may never be seen.

Which is why I've been so inspired to keep celebrating the creatives who make games. Share what you love, make sure people know it.

Vicious Gardens! It's all set collecting and Take-That mechanics hidden under beautiful art and production. We played it through a few times, but I felt there were some edge cases it didn't account for, like having no way to swap out objective cards. Actually plays a bit like Froggy Finance 🐸

Today I did more development with my co-designer on the fish market concept. We took away the most complex part and managed to make it more fun at the same time. Let’s see how it goes. we might be able to bring it to the Sunday testplay session.

Me, quietly shouting about board games whenever I work out at the gym.

Another fantastic game of Risk after work—what a fierce battle!

I’m brainstorming ideas for a card game to help me plan my upcoming trip to Taiwan. Since I’ll be visiting Taipei with friends, I thought it might be fun to create a game that helps us learn and decide what to do during our trip.

Heading to a Board Game flea market in the next town. The organizer seems pretty nice, and attendees include well-known local designers and publishers!

After work, I had my first-ever Risk game with my coworkers. Well, we immediately scheduled another round for next week!

dear game designers/publishers. Have you seriously considered a soundtrack for your games? I think we'll be doing this for everything going forward. Not only is it cool to help players create an atmosphere for games, it also helps a little, to bring more artists into the community. Music! It's cool!

Participated in my first ever public play-test session. I have learned so much by playing other designers’ games and providing feedback. Glad to hear that our new prototype has some legs, and people seem to enjoy it.

Another round of play testing the new prototype of “Fish Market”. I’m enjoying the short and exciting gameplay so far.

2025 is officially the year to go play the absolute heck out of your board game collection.

This year I want to try using Obsidian for documenting the game-making process. Wondering how others are keeping track.

Started designing a new game last weekend with a coworker. After work, I have created another round of teat kit using Multideck(design) and Affinity Publisher (print), feeling pretty good about it at the moment.

The internet isn’t real and it could be gone so fast. I am a strong advocate for printing things that you love. Get the edges of the pages curly with flipping. Let them be coffee-stained. Don’t worry about text ghosting through cheap paper. Live a little in the real world.

Here’s another old prototype photo. This is Gizmos, then called Inventions.
I had a lot of fun finding art from old books in the British Library archive. Unnecessary, but for me sometimes doing full “art direction” on a prototype is a fun project, and instructive for the design.

This is the reason I get excited about Tokyo Game Market

...and why Game Market West and Indie Night Market excite me.

There are folks who make games, not for profit, but to explore an idea and produce just enough to fund the next exploration. Games that don't fit preconceived notions of "game."
it's not often I agree with Georgios, but he's exactly right here. No one says there are too many books or too many albums, but if 99% of them were created as consumer products first, hype/marketing second, & human art only by accident, we'd be having the same conversation there
I think the issue isn't that there are too many #boardgames, but that too many designers are creating products.

We're entering the age of cardboard shovelware. "Designing with large target audiences in mind" was bound to get us there eventually.

After 6 years with countless hours spent waiting for the screen to refresh, I have finally updated my Kindle… what a joy to finally be able to use the “scrollbar”.

新Kindleにしたらスクロールバーがやっとちゃんと使えててそれだけでもう最強w
