Hi! I'm Justin. I make a free zine series about designing print-friendly tabletop games called PRINT IT YOURSELF. Every issue is absolutely chock full of diagrams and sometimes I do interviews with really talented and knowledgeable people. Check it out:

Picking up a pen and drawing something every day is a great way to build yourself up, especially when you don’t think of yourself as an artist.
One day, you’ll feel like you’ve earned the title. Eventually you’ll realize you earned it the moment you picked up the pen.
I’m proud of you, Exeunt.

A lot will be happening over on my Itch page, including a ton of print at home foldable versions of my games inspired by @shoutingcrow.bsky.social

But until they are uploaded, from now you can grab a physical copy of Pirouette and Grotty Gobbo's Tea Grotto!

These are VERY limited, only 7 of each

Oof, this one’s so heavy, I haven’t been able to commission art for it or finish the work myself. If you wanna feel some kinda way, check out this stream.
Good luck, Wyvern!
I'll be going well out of my comfort zone for this week's #solorpg Thursday - Body to Die For by @shoutingcrow.bsky.social is about body horror, transphobia, body dysmorphia, and death. I've wanted to stream it for a while, but I needed to make sure I could respectfully handle the subject.

Interrupting my summer of inactivity to say: oh holy crap, one of our blue pearl neocaridina shrimp is carrying eggs!
There’s a little yellow shrimp just below her, to the right. Li’l bonus for ya.

Got a lot of new followers today, but I haven’t been very productive this summer.
Please enjoy this (invasive) mollusk shell that my kid found in the river.
We spend a lot of time outside this time of year, but I’ll be back to posting bookbinding, publishing, and TTRPG stuff in September!

We bully people into great things in the Plus One discord.

Also if you want to support

@vidityavoleti.bsky.social's Longsword
@hipolita.itch.io's RAD
@apesofwrath.bsky.social's Down We Go
Tony's Through The Void

Or one of our other house systems we would love to help you
So after a discussion in a discord server (and being told I'd be a coward if I didn't set this up) here's the Indie Adventure Jam. Make a THING for your favourite #ttrpg that doesn't have enough THINGS. Simple as that, you have two months.

I think about this a lot and definitely feel that a game is not truly complete until it has at least one adventure supplement to support it and show what playing that game is actually like.

It's like a video game with no story. Cool mechanics but how do I use them?
Critically, the rest of the book is a SAMPLE ADVENTURE. Do you know how USEFUL that is?! Even as a reference for formatting?! If you want people to write adventures for your games, for goodness’ sake, give them an idea of what those adventures should look like, more or less!!
an advertisement for schitts creek shows a woman holding a tablet and says " this is a critical moment "
Alt: Moira, a formerly rich older woman from Schitt’s creek, shouts “this is a critical moment”

So you’re a game designer who wants people to write adventures for your system.
Here’s how you facilitate that:

Plus One is looking for 4 "Zine Weight" #TTRPS to help support next year in a very particular way.

We want to run 4 titles by newer creators through 4 different "funding platforms" & track the process for each one.

The platforms are:
-Kickstarter
-Backerkit
-Gamefound
-Zine Club

Write an adventure for an indie system you read or played recently.
Go on, do it. Even if you don’t think of yourself as a game designer. It doesn’t have to be great— it just has to be playable. One page, back and front. Three pages. An unformatted google doc. A postcard dungeon. Doesn’t matter.

I try not to put spiders into my games, out of consideration for my arachnophobic friends, but I am making a terrarium for my girlfriend and look what I found while misting it today… webs! (This shot was selected because it does not have a visible spider)

What a productive little dude.

A long time coming, but Mausritter now has an SRD! There’s a nice website where you can get the rules or download a markdown file, plus they’re now released under a CC-BY license so you’re free to use the rules text in your own projects mausritter.com/srd/

All my friends are running ads for their projects and I can’t be arsed to charge more than $5 for a PDF simply because the rat race takes all the fun out of making stuff. Ho hum.

play games outside your discipline, even if you don't like them. engage with why you do or don't like them. it's great practice!

you should try to experience OSR, trad, storygame, gmless, solo, fkr, larp, etc and see how they warp your idea of what our goofy little hobby is

Did you know that you can fit ~40 standard sized playing cards, five dice, and a rules sheet printed on the back of a J-card inside a cassette case without posts? Do something with this knowledge.

You can draw with shape tools in any layout program. Or sunlight and stencils and vegetable juice. Collage is a legitimate art form. You can paint with coffee. You can burn a stick to make charcoal. You don’t have to be “good at art” to make art. There is no gatekeeper. The process is the point.

I did my best to compile as many protest safety notes as possible into a one page foldout zine! Coincidentally…it seems the file has breached containment…like it’s available for anyone to print or hand out 👀⚖️

Hey TTRPG crew. If you can't afford to hire a great artist like Evlyn (she's worth it, though) and you use Affinity Publisher to lay out your games, I can teach you how to draw this little bird using nothing but shape tools.
You don't need fancy equipment to make half-decent art and I'll prove it: 🧵
