Hello, we're Knave of Cups

We launched on April 1st 2022 (not a joke)

We're named after the Page of Cups, the tarot card meaning youthful, unexpected inspiration that springs from the unconscious mind

(that's the fish - that's who's whispering grand ideas)

Take that, Hallmark and American Greetings.

Tis the season for gluing things to other things!

@helveticablanc.bsky.social will receive a 2025 Best Seller trophy for The Wormsong Oracle

(as soon as Jen is done letting the muses speak - so far that looks like a broken wine stopper, half a tuna cell phone charm, and a modelmaking plaque)

We are still building a world with A Land Once Magic over on Discord. It remains Very Cool. Here's our latest prompt's answer. Song and sound are inherently magical in our world so birds do not need wings to fly and are more like organic flute and chime-covered footballs than what we have on Earth.

Oh no.
A roleplaying game where you have to close every one of your 200 open browser tabs one by one, gradually giving up parts of yourself until you are reborn as an egg.

It never ceases to blow my mind that so many tech, sci-fi, futurism backers ended up swinging so far right. Did they entirely miss the point of the sci-fi novels? That identity, self, personal exploration is something we can nurture and grow? It's like instead they said, "no we like the dystopia."

"This story doesn't need a sandworm"

This is almost always wrong. Arguably, EVERY story benefits from adding a huge subterranean worm with quasi-mystical or semi-supernatural powers, or equivalent (similar to Moby Dick).

Obviously the bigger the worm, the more literary quality it adds.

posting just so I don't forget the name of this fantastic animal again: the land snail genus Whittenia is doing the horrible (said with deep and pure love) Nipponites heteromorph thing with its shell. maybe the worst shell on a currently living thing I've ever seen (I love it)

I love when people share stuff from their niche areas of interest and expertise. I always learn something and, often, am corrected. If I only learned about the core subjects of my interests I’d be a useless encyclopedia with no context for anything.

You recognize the pondering the orb meme. The art's by Angus McBride, originally a cover for a MERP book.

It's ALSO the cover for this choose your own adventure book where you play as Saruman's apprentice who doesn't wish to turn to the Shadow. It's my favorite Middle-earth Quest book.

some truly top-shelf shapes going on here
Cladonia fimbriata is very common #lichen in Britain, but how splendid to see in such profusion! Distinguished from other similar pixie-cups by 'golf-tee' shape, and by surface of uniformly farinose i.e. 'powdery' soredia. On moss on calcareous drystone wall, Normanby-le-Wold, Lincolnshire, England.

The Grey Horse, the Grey Horse,
Sings this song, sings this song;
Make a rhyme, any rhyme,
But in tune, and in time,
Or I will eat, I will eat,
All thy meat, and thy drink.
Faster than thee can blink.
