And this is from a completely different song, and the shipwreck in this one is fictional, but it’s been in my head all day so I’ll sign off with it:
Hear me call across the waves
If I don’t come home tonight
I will make it home someday
Hear me call across the waves
If I don’t come home tonight
I will make it home someday

One more skeet for Edmund Fitzgerald Day. Behind this historical marker is the famed Whitefish Bay. Today the Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum in Paradise, Mich., rang the recovered bell 31 times, 29 for the victims of the wreck, once for all Great Lakes shipwreck victims, and once for Gordon Lightfoot.

A #BlueskyLullaby for tonight: To mark the anniversary of the wreck of the 'Edmund Fitzgerald' on Lake Superior (November 10, 1975), here's Gordon Lightfoot's famous song about it—as covered even more hauntingly by the Punch Brothers, including Chris Thile singing and on mandolin. See you around.

In the century leading up to 1975, nearly 6000 freighters went down in the Great Lakes.
The Edmund Fitzgerald was the last.
The last. In 50 years, not a single commercial freighter has been lost in the Great Lakes.
Why?
It's NOAA. Of course it's NOAA.

Today I Learned (from an NPR hourly news segment) that Lake Superior has been thwarted in its shipwrecking ambitions since the Edmund Fitzgerald. The industry tightened safety standards, and no freighter has gone down in any of the Great Lakes since.
Heck yeah.

If the Dems blink after all of this, for a deal that all but ensures no ACA subsidies in 2026 anyway, then what was the purpose of letting the shutdown go for 40 days in the first place?

Another successful platelet donation at Bloodworks Northwest, while watching a new Elsbeth and an old Leverage. 😄 Local supplies of all negative types (particularly B-) are low right now, and every pint is needed—consider helping out if you can! 💖

For (I think) the first time since I got to stitching again a few years ago, I’ve had to put down a project before it was finished, because this one has a deadline. Another donation piece for the Northwest Associated Arts Cabaret fundraiser in February. 😄 #CrossStitch

ok I know I JUST said this but Snake-Eater is on First Reads for cheap…can anyone who’s read both this and The Twisted Ones offer a scariness comparison? 😄
OK so based on this experience I know two things to be true.
I definitely want to read more T. Kingfisher books.
I definitely do NOT want to read another T. Kingfisher horror story.
Fortunately there are lots of others, and I’m putting Clockwork Boys on hold right now. 😄

Stopping there was a Very Good Plan. I read more yesterday—over lunch at the office, in daylight, with other people around, totally monsterproof—and still had trouble sleeping many hours later.
Book is good and I am determined to finish it…just gotta do that within very specific time windows. 😅
