I don't know how to teach students who hate reading/writing, when reading/writing are the foundations of what I'm supposed to teach. Yes, I engage with audio technologies, digital narratives, cinema, material culture...but it's all forms of reading. I just don't know what they want out of this.

An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

Excuse me while I cry over this incredible discussion of what makes lives grievable with unfortunately still relevant tie-ins to Gaza. I just rewatched the Hunger Games movies last year and now it looks like I have to watch them again! podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/m...

Recently turned in a deeply researched draft of a book on What AI Actually Is and reader, this is 100% correct
"The problem with AI isn't that it can do your job. It can't. The problem with AI is that your MBA-brained boss's boss doesn't know how your job works and thinks AI can do your job at fractions of a penny on the dollar, and hears the siren song of 'maximize shareholder value'."

MBA-brain is real.
They’re literally advertising it.

Research says Google’s carbon emissions went up by 65% between 2019-2024, not 51% as the tech giant had claimed

It's almost like there's actually really good, solid information, history, and expertise about transgender medicine, including youth health care, out there and the powers and pundits that be--from SCOTUS to The Atlantic--are willfully ignoring it just to push a horrifically cruel agenda.
Friends, I still need to listen in full, but the editors of @sunypress.bsky.social's A HISTORY OF TRANSGENDER MEDICINE IN THE US appeared on the New Books Network a couple weeks ago. Tune in for a 1-hr distillation of their "incredibly comprehensive" 800-pp vol!

RFK Jr: If you appropriate the funds, I'm going to spend them

D: We have! You're cutting the NIH by $18b. Congress appropriated those funds. How can you justify cutting billions from the biomedical research budget?

I shall die, but that is all that I shall do for Death;
I am not on his pay-roll.
I will not tell him the whereabout of my friends
nor of my enemies either.
Though he promise me much,
I will not map him the route to any man's door.

Universal Basic Income saves lives. It is a life-saving policy.
A study of over 7 million people from 2000-2019 across 37 countries found a significant impact of cash transfers on all-cause mortality. Women's deaths fell by 20%. Deaths of kids under age 5 fell by 8%. The greater the amount and universality, the greater the impact.
