I don't know how to teach students who hate reading/writing, when reading/writing are the foundations of what I'm supposed to teach. Yes, I engage with audio technologies, digital narratives, cinema, material culture...but it's all forms of reading. I just don't know what they want out of this.

Yes! The ShakespeaRe-Told adaptation I discuss in the article is one of the most interesting versions of the characters I’ve seen, and I still can’t decide if I like it or not..

Borrowers and Lenders (the journal it’s in) is actually open access so you should just be able to download the PDF through the link! And there is a whole archive of adaptation articles available on their website, which you should definitely check out. Including on Merchant!

I was told recently that a major reason humanists aren’t in as many upper admin positions is that we’re viewed as annoying progress blockers because we ask inconvenient questions and also because we’re comfortable sitting w ambiguity & discomfort and also don’t rush to the nearest solution as an end
