I've been ruminating on this for a day, and I think ao3 subreddit has a point. Here are my thoughts on it:
I always felt more inclined to write multi-chapters out of my own interest, but after publishing a few oneshots, I realised how much more morale boost it gives and started working on more.

meanwhile on AO3 subreddit literally everyone always posts about how writing multi chaptered fics is discouraging because they barely get any interactions and complain about readers filtering out unfinished works, while one-shots get interactions immediately after posting

I actually don't know where this misconception that long fics are more popular than oneshots comes from. I remember discourse about it on twitter a long time ago but as far as I can know, it's never 100% either way.
