It's not moral character.

It's not American culture.

It's not that we can't talk to each other anymore.

It's. The. Broken. Anti-democratic. Political. Institutions.
The problem isn't that we can't talk to each other

The marketplace has heard the ideas

Large supermajorities reject them

Yet our anti-democratic political institutions allow the 20-25% that like those ideas to capture & control all the institutions

The problem is the anti-democratic institutions
CNN has a show with a similar line. That the problem with this country is we just aren’t talking to each other.

It’s the kind of diagnosis that a toddler would land on.

Just a reminder that Trump has, on camera, bragged about walking in on Miss Teen USA contestants changing and explained his 17-year-old daughter asked him not to “date” girls younger than her.

I’m not sure what’s true in the Epstein Files, but when you recall those facts it all seems plausible

Lutnick isn’t stupid. He knows what he’s saying here is a lie. Kellyanne knows this is a lie. But they have nothing but contempt for the Fox audience, and serving up lies to the lemmings has worked so well for so long. A tiny handful are doing well, millions are not.

It's a weird world when dutifully regurgitating a bunch of carefully curated information that the world's richest man gave you is "fearless journalism," but reporting on how the government is kidnapping innocent people and sending them overseas to be tortured is "not moving the ball forward."

It’s possible they’re incompetent.

However, DOJ attys, and their chiefs, have a lot of experience redacting files. They have software for it. They have procedures to check that it’s done properly. This is more likely to be malicious compliance—after all, the law requires near complete disclosure.
I mean yeah it’s an authoritarian takeover but can we take some comfort in the fact that the people doing it are INSANELY stupid?

Never forget, we are a nation founded on ideals, but we are also a nation of bullies. No matter how many times they say it, we’ve never been a Christian nation.
It was hard to convince Americans torture is wrong as a moral principle during Bush's term, and that was with the debate about whether torture makes us safer. I'm afraid for a portion of Trump's base, that calculation matters less. Idea of torturing undocumented immigrants may even bring pleasure.

Step 1: Manhattan.
Step 2: Everywhere else.
Year 1 data on congestion pricing in Manhattan…

* Vehicle traffic: -11%
* Foot traffic: +3.4%
* Storefront vacancy: -0.9%
* Pollution: -22%
* Revenue for mass transit: $548M

So YES this has been a huge success.

The story is insane. The acting head of cyber security, a Noem crony, repeatedly demanded to see highly classified information he didn’t need access to, and when staff set up a lie detector test as a condition to grant him access, he failed it. So DHS suspended the staffers.
