The Racial Construction of Neoliberalism by @arunkundnani.bsky.social is my fave text that I've read so far among 3 classes so far this semester. Just needed to place that thought somewhere lol

just logged into linkedin for the first time in weeks and this was one of my notifications (????). I'm sure there's someone studying the ways corporate media and platforms uptake the use of (queer) AAVE 😵‍💫

"gen alpha phrases" and it's just phrases that Black people across generations say...

"ate that up" is black QUEER language and "secure the bag" has been around since I was at least in middle school
Turns out all the major LLMs (GPT-4, Claude, Gemini, Llama 3) struggle to understand Gen Alpha phrases, like "let him cook", "ate that up", "got ratioed", "secure the bag" etc. Research paper written by a soon-to-be 9th grader www.404media.co/ai-models-an...
AI Models And Parents Don’t Understand ‘Let Him Cook’
LLMs are not familiar with “ate that up,” “secure the bag,” and “sigma,” showing that training data is not yet updated to Gen Alpha terminology.

📍The Book I’ve Been Holding in My Chest

I’ve been writing a book for years—one shaped by a single question:Who gets to be understood online?
It’s about grief, algorithms, and Gakirah Barnes. She was 17.She was brilliant. Her life—lived on Twitter—has something to teach us all.

I don’t have enough characters to explain here but this has me thinking about how changes in how we consume media (viewing TV collectively vs streaming individually) has shifted how much younger generations likely know about artists before their time.
Tina Turner releases “What’s Love Got To Do With It” today in 1984 — a song she hated at first but recorded on the advice of her manager, Roger Davies, who was engineering her comeback.

When it won three Grammys (including Song and Record of the Year), she gave one of the awards to him. 💕 #RIP
