Jim Jarmusch's triptych FATHER MOTHER SISTER BROTHER hits theaters this week. It's cute if not slight, only scratching the surface short of giving a complete picture of the familial bonds that are on display.

'Father Mother Sister Brother' Review: Jim Jarmusch's Endearing and Somber Family Triptych
A triptych anthology family portrait about the pain of returning home amid loss. It's very charming, but not one of Jarmusch’s best works.

Had a bubble-blowing blast with THE SPONGEBOB MOVIE: SEARCH FOR SQUAREPANTS, which is so zany and absurd, it spiritually captures the nautical nonsense brilliance of its golden age era.

Alia Shawkat and Callum Turner's sizzlin' chemistry carries but Hailey Gates's ATROPIA is a subpar backdoor pilot for an FX series that would have aired in 2009 masked as a movie. How this won the Sundance's US dramatic competition prize puzzles me. #FilmSky

'Atropia' Review: Military Satire Has Wit and Romance, but Not Much Else
Barely a movie, more of a backdoor pilot for an FX series that would have aired in 2009.

Lindsay Pugh's exquisite costumes in HEDDA amplifies the depth of each character. For my Artisan Interview series, Pugh breaks down the specific design choices and how they reflect the power dynamics and personalities of Hedda, Thea, and Eileen. [Paywall]

Alexander Ullom’s IT ENDS is on @letterboxd.social rental today. It's a unique, horrifying tale that speaks to the terrifying, unforgiving circumstance of entering the world as a full-fledged adult.

For @dreadcentral.bsky.social, I interviewed the filmmaker about his debut

Had a wonderful chat with @gingerhaze.bsky.social about his debut YA novel, Scarlet Morning.

For @autostraddle.bsky.social, he talks about returning to his story he started as a teen (pre-Nimona), his many influences for this swashbuckling pirate tale, and potential AU drawings.

Park Chan-wook’s NO OTHER CHOICE is like a new aged MODERN TIMES, humorously reflecting the desolate working culture of now, but wrapped in his signature, dark and twisted bow. Lee Byung-hun is on a Chaplin-level of excellence throughout.

DEMON SLAYER: INFINITY CASTLE is a stunning, bloody animated spectacle that continue to make bank and Oscar talk. I chatted with the animation studio at Ufotable on their first of three films to conclude the epic saga.

Josh Safdie’s MARTY SUPREME in which i discuss how it’s possibly the most timely NY movie ever made. A raw & chaotic ode to the insatiable working-class desire to fulfill an ultimate destiny and its pursuit. An absolute SCHWEP. #MartySupreme

Met MIRA NAIR at a IT WAS JUST AN ACCIDENT reception tonight (she loved it). Got starstruck for both THE NAMESAKE and her son becoming our mayor. Thanked her both.

Girl just give Oscar already. And Grammy. It’s Joever. Hell Macy’s Parade is not even a competition and yet EJAE, Rei, and Audrey won. This performance ate so hard, I fear everyone who performs after. Wow.
November 27, 2025 at 4:14 PM
Wait they just announced Skyler Gisondo and Marcello Hernandez as Shrek & Fiona’s sons Fergus & Farkle alongside Zendaya’s Felicia for Shrek 5. Like that wasn’t even announced anywhere.

Did I just get new movie news via Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade?!

I don’t know how else to say this but Lil Jon doing Turn Down For What on a Toys R Us float in 2025 is such a recession indicator.

Didn't expect a Shaggy medley in my #MacysParade. Also love that it's a series of "can we sing this with a TVPG rating?"

ZOOTOPIA 2 is undeniably the best Disney Animation sequel to date. Bigger, sharper, and so darn funny. Nick and Judy got that 'Mulder and Scully' level of hot tension going on and I hate how I need them to kiss. Disney got me going feral on main now.

If they don’t have that fox and bunny make-out sloth-py style in the next film, I'm rioting against Disney Animation.

ICYMI, I launched an awards interview series for Rendy Reviews subscribers. Doubling down on my site is a bold new step for me, esp after being pushed out of this harsh freelancer journalist climate.
