Grad students asked me recently why I write collaboratively, and I struggled to give an answer better than “I have extremely smart friends and I love to hang out and talk about books with them,” but that’s really it.
Lots of fun presenting with @lbmcgrath.bsky.social and @jdporter.bsky.social at this week’s fabulous conference on the world of audiobooks! Thanks to @corinnanorue.bsky.social and @millicentweber.bsky.social for organizing. And watch this space for more on “Echoing: A Theory of the Audiobook”!

Hi, it's me again. I'm reposting this today because a whole lot of people who saw this yesterday told me they appreciated it.

Know this: I believe in you. If you need permission to have some quiet space for yourself, here it is. <3
Hi. It's me. I'm here to gently ask if you've been giving yourself grace? Patience? Self-care?

You've got this. You are enough, and you deserve all the good things.

But you know, your journal citation reports
license plate data merged with credit header data, marriage records, vehicle ownership, and voter registrations, in one app for ICE agents. oh and it sends push notifications when someone they're seeking is nearby.

Of course you bloody do.
Come with me.

The "theoretical/possible" floating around this morning reminds me of a federal employee about 12 years ago telling a room of data librarians that the fedgov was "pre-decisional" about any kind of implementation of a policy already in place

This annotated bibliography that @kbriney.bsky.social and I published this spring has come up a few times today.

It's the 14 books we could find addressing data management specifically for researchers.

Has anyone checked OpenRefine for accessibliity requirements?

I use it in class for RDM but I'm thinking I need to switch to something else and I'm not sure what.

This goes for scholars too. I've had conferences try to get me to agree that they can record and resell my presentation forever and that the materials now belong to them

The Medical Library Association contracts are the worst I've ever rejected 📚(and yes I've told them that, I tried multiple times)
When you are a new creator, whether in prose, comics, or other media, it can be very tempting to agree to every convention or other event that you're asked to do. Exposure is great, right? And it's wonderful to be wanted.

For me it usually comes out in a vague approximation of Nadia May's narration
Like every vague sketch of a white Gen X or Millenial woman, I can recite Pride & Prejudice like a single monologue at will. (Once again there is a disconnect between what Elizabeth thinks, feels, does, & experiences vs what actually is, & the reconciliation of those is her human journey)
