Syrian interim government forces are advancing towards the coast where Russia’s bases lie. Naval and air assets have already been evacuated but personnel remain.

“Our forces at Russian bases in Syria are on heightened combat alert,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said.

One of the biggest lessons from Syria is that, just a month ago, almost no one could have predicted the Assad regime would fall today. The "realities on the ground" crowd would have denied such a possibility. A reminder of why people in Ukraine fight rather than surrender.

If you do not think that Trump is serious about his threats of evicting millions from the US, then you are not paying attention. And if you think that this is an appropriate policy in 2024, then you may need to have your views (and perhaps your head) examined.
