As if cancer itself wasn’t bad enough, it also creates a barrier between you and your loved ones. They’ll struggle to understand. They want to help but they’ve got their own feelings to process. So they’ll inevitably be clumsy with the words they use.

And you, the person with cancer: you’ll be tired, scared and overwhelmed. You’ll have little patience for this clumsiness. You’ll feel isolated. You’ll wish they understood.

“Get the tests! Get checked!”

Yes, of course you should.

But getting the tests is a stressful and disruptive process. It’s not cost-free.

As a cancer survivor, I’ve had to learn precisely *when* getting the tests is the best possible thing for my health. It’s not easy to navigate.

There isn’t anything you can say to make it better. If there was, then cancer wouldn’t be a big deal.

Loved ones, friends, doctors and nurses: be with us, if you can. Sit alongside us in our pain. I know it’s hard. That’s why it means so much.

I hadn't realised just how important food was to my happiness until nausea and taste bud weirdness disrupted my diet.
One of the cruel things about chemo is how it messes with your ability to enjoy food.

I felt so ill. All I wanted to do was curl up with a big bar of chocolate. But sweet things clung to the inside of my mouth and made it hurt too much.

(I’m back on the crisps now but it took a year)

In a mostly bleak election for American women and their rights, New Mexico was an unexpected bright spot.

Even as Harris lost her bid for the White House, NM voters elected 60 women to fill the legislature’s 112 seats, giving New Mexico the largest female legislative majority in US history.

Reminder:
Health insurance companies don’t “provide healthcare.”

They withhold access to it.
That’s their business model.

Which is why we need Medicare for All which would guarantee healthcare for everyone, save lives, save money, cost less, and create jobs.
