The City is just the best. Go throw them some coins if you can afford to.

I stepped in vomit on the 4/5 platform at Grand Central this evening. 🤮

I took my kid through Times Square station just so we could see the Nick Cave mosaics. I love his work and seeing how the mosaic artists had managed to capture it in glass and tile and buttons was great, like how a really awesome cover of a song reinterprets instead of reproducing

The beginning of Daylight Savings Time always causes a major disruption to my life. It's harder to wake up in the morning, and I find myself staying up later because the signals that the day is ending disappear. I'm going to bed early tonight and setting an early alarm tomorrow.

I've been thinking that we need products like this to enable the heat pump conversion to happen here in NYC. So glad this is looking so promising!

I am constantly shocked at how terribly libraries manage their serials records these days. OCLC indicates holdings but when you switch to their local catalog there are no records at all, or the holdings don't match, or the holdings DO match but the publication was deselcted and the record missed.

A great day. Half on the beach, half hanging out with a long-time online friend. Glad we were able to connect in person.

I'm a transit geek and have been enjoying exploring Rio de Janeiro by bus and metro. It's remarkably easy to get around, and most of the services are efficient and reliable. They've definitely managed boarding and exiting better than New York.

I've been watching the ways in which search engines have integrated large language models into their results, and the results are just as bad as you would expect.
Disinformation in the era of generative AI — Jessica Kant

The Bluebook is so inscrutible. Just learned that executive orders are cited to their original reprint in 3 CFR, which seems like such an arbitrary choice? Is the CFR somehow more authoritative than the Federal Register? Thank goodness for HeinOnline!

A certain legal research database has been very focused on their AI search product and the performance of their regular search and citator product have taken a nosedive. Not cool.

Finished my first book of the year. @mashagessen.bsky.social is one of my favorite essayists and thinkers. This book is complex and tender. Gessen is remarkably prescient.

I had to go through the University's annual information security training which was all delivered by video with no read-out or transcription offered. It was painful and I kept having to go and review the video because I missed things.

More text. Less video.

Please and Thank You.
