Bitcoin mining has been nothing more than a huge energy waste in past years. Now AI is about to surpass Bitcoin’s power demand. Emerging tech is rapidly driving up the power demand of worldwide digital infrastructure with the inevitable consequence being strained power grids and more fossil fuel use

That’s as well produced as any Timelapse. Superb execution. It makes it more interesting to push into the daylight hours.

Here is Earth's rotation realized in an unusual way: using a camera scanning the landscape of Tivoli, Namibia, Bartosz Wojczyński focused on the sky.

He created a timelapse spanning 24 h that has a focal point in the sky rather than on the ground.

White water is furiously whipped at Mona Vale, NSW. I try to get here regularly. Shot using a longer telephoto to compress the background waves. The camera, and I, were being sandblasted by the wind.

Rachel’s wave photography remains extraordinarily beautiful. It’s so very characterful.

AI continues to be a brutal, pointless, existential threat to creativity and artists.

That it has stolen virtually everything to be what it is, makes it a robber baron.
More than 1,000 musicians, including Kate Bush, Cat Stevens and Annie Lennox, have released a silent album in protest of the proposed changes to British copyright laws around artificial intelligence (AI) ⤵️

AI is quite literally a blight/ blot on the landscape.
Turns out that AI image generation is extremely energy intensive. It uses 59x more energy on average than AI summarization. The chart is by @NatBullard

KEEP CATS SAFE—there is clear proof of cat-human household transmission of bird flu. CDC scientists posted the data—but suddenly deleted soon afterwards. CDC is being blatantly muzzled.

How does the war on science, the Trump/Musk staffers at NOAA and commercial air travel tie together? Easily.

Flying is NOT black magic, it’s applied science. And flying depends upon other scientists to provide the daily information that keeps flying safe.

Don't just write. Read books. Watch films. Look at paintings and sculpture. Play games. Go to plays. Listen to music. Think about how these things make you feel.

Reading this article with a degree of worry. Photography still perceived as luxury. Are we a value proposition for consumers? Will consumers flood the banal AI products?

Are the prints, books, albums we produce a good buy? Or will it be goodbye to the arts?

Promised folks I would post about a long term project I have going on just now

Since March I have been taking one single photo on film every day.

Yeah I know. Groundbreaking 🙄

But with luck it’s leading somewhere interesting!

Bundeena, NSW. The bride and groom, on their wedding day, had a first look here. Such a beautiful place to be, and they were absolutely delighted to have spent the time together pre-ceremony.

That gave them more time with family and friends #photography #wedding

In the middle of the day, with blue sky overhead, the bride stands to watch her horse walk to her. The wedding day was held on the family farm outside Gilgandra.

This image conjures up a feel of The Lord of the Rings. I don't think it's just me.
