If I had to recommend 3 things to writers (at all levels), I would start with these 3 (with options for adding more):
1. Be persistent.
2. Be curious about the world, people, history, everything. Expand your horizons. Curiosity is your soil, your ocean, your rock, your air.
3. Never stop learning.

When I'm heading to work in the morning and see people standing about already drinking, I get so jealous. I'd love to go to the offie, get a 3lit of White Lightening and join them. Instead I have to go into an office and manage a bunch of fuckwits.
