On this day in 1874, Lucy Maud Montgomery was born.
She wrote 20 novels, 530 short stories, 500 poems and 30 essays. Her most famous book was Anne of Green Gables, which has sold 50 million copies in 36 languages.
She died in 1942 and is considered a Canadian icon.

On this day in 1950, John Candy was born in Toronto.
Rising to fame on SCTV, he became a comedy icon and one of the most beloved Canadians in history. He won two Emmys, a Gemini and a Grey Cup.
What more can be said? He is an absolute legend who is dearly missed.
