It's an elegant shed ... full of commercial tat and clutter.
📰 The baffling listing rejection of Stansted Airport featured in the latest issue of @privateeyenews.bsky.social; "a seminal piece of aviation architeture" and a building that even the late Piloti (C20’s own Gavin Stamp) admired as "an elegant shed".

What a cl***er***k. It's renewables but with centuries of waste management.
So it's now news Hinkley Point C will be really expensive?

FFS, I & others were trying to tell people this over a decade ago, before contracts were signed

But the nuclear-political establishment thought they knew better

They didn't. Not for the first time

UoE has form on George Square.
I'm not even going try defend this building, suffice to say its owners spending squillions on new buildings while letting their existing estate deteriorate to the point they need to wrap them in chicken wire to keep the cladding from falling off seems remarkably allegorical
Application submitted for stabilisation of A-listed 40 George Square (1960-1963), formerly David Hume Tower - covering the building in a light gauge stainless steel open mesh system due to the condition of the slate cladding (estimated to have a future lifespan of only 3-5 years): bit.ly/3K7E0Dz

It shut down research into forced labour and human rights abuses, intimidated academics, suppressed academic papers.

Outrageous. Universities functioning as corporations. Must be investigated.

Proposal to demolish two Edinburgh multi-storey blocks
Two Edinburgh multi-storey council housing blocks are being considered for demolition after costs for a planned refit have increased dramatically, according to city officers. According to a report to be noted by councillors next week, refurbishing the Oxcars Court and Inchmickery Court blocks in Muirhouse no longer provides ‘value for money’. Councillors will make a decision on what to do about the two 75-flat blocks at a meeting of the city’s Housing, Homelessness and Fair Work committee in December.

Worth saving those motif tiles methinks but seems unlikely.
Warehouse, offices and garage for Carlsberg Scottish Importers Ltd., 1961. Look closely, the elephant's head is the "C" from the Carlsberg logotype and the C is replicated in smaller tiles too. There are huge elephant statues supporting the brewery gates and they've long been used in their marketing

The figures are eye-watering. I have no knowledge of this, but were European public-procurement procedures still being followed when these went to tender?
