Happy Petrov Day to those who celebrate. On September 26, 1983, Stanislav Petrov made the correct decision to not trust a computer.

I've attached a short clip from a reenactment of the situation in the documentary The Man Who Saved the World.

Would anyone in Fredericton be interested in a board game club? Thinking about starting a group that would get together a couple of times a month at a local brewery or cafe to play some games.

Who was it who said that if the average person in the street knew how money really worked, there'd be riots?
This is your reminder that taxes don't "pay for stuff". They are a financial instrument that the government uses to manage inflation. They can choose the mix of who bears the burden of that management.

Leavitt says they’ve begun flying deportees to Guantanamo Bay.

This is functionally disappearing human beings.

There is no consular access to Guantanamo, making it nearly impossible for those held there to be represented by their governments.

There is virtually no media access, either.

one of the defining features of the techbro dipshits now running the USA is their absolute refusal to consider that anyone, ever, has thought about problems before them

time after time they come in, propose a solution that was rejected years ago because it's stupid, and call themselves geniuses
Ah, yes, I’m sure no prior administration thought to ask how all the payments are made.

Only saying once on bsky b/c I know it is not entirely useful, but it is totally exhausting that in 2016 some of us said “they’re Nazis,” some of us screamed “they’re segregationists,” and a whole lot of very serious people now posting about them being Nazis and segregationists gaslight us for years

Extremely unfun fact: math like this is one of the reasons the Nazis ended up deciding to build death camps.

They decided it was cheaper and easier to murder people, rather than deal with the logistics of moving them somewhere else after they had been deported.
