The instinct to call Trump and his administration Fascist is sometimes overwhelming - but are we being counterproductive when doing so?

My growing concern is this:

If we keep relying on 20th century language, are we actually failing prepare for a very 21st century threat?

Sigh. Having a viral moment over on The Bad Place and so much of it is folks who are infuriated at the idea of historical expertise because it doesn't flatter their notions that history is about Great Men and the Greatest Man, invariably either Donald Trump or Elon Musk.

Yet another example of how we have always known what was going on, & what the dangers of allowing it to run out of control, were.

The people who had the chance to crush the present Trump regime, for four long years, & completely ignored it, deserve the full-throated contempt of every good person.

What this tells us, fairly specifically, is that Jacques-Louis David, revolutionary Jacobin artist extraordinaire, was, in a very literal historical sense, the originator of the Nazi salute:
