mourn the collective loss of genius of folks who were actively discouraged or disadvantaged from a career in science because of the same person(s)

@davebangert.bsky.social have you been asking #Purdue administration about all the #USAID and #NIH cuts? 22 states that sued will now be able to access all their funds. Obviously, that doesn’t include us. The silence on all of this from university leadership is damning.

The story behind RFK Jr. in Samoa's measles crisis has never been reported. He wasn't there to spread misinformation about vaccines (though he did). He wanted to study a "natural experiment" of unvaccinated kids.

Experts saw Samoa's plunging vaccination rates as a crisis. RFK Jr. saw an opportunity.
New details show how Robert F. Kennedy Jr., then chair of an anti-vaccine group and now Trump’s pick for health secretary, sought to exploit a deadly vaccine accident.

Hey #HoosierSky

The NIH provides a TON of funding to Indiana Universities and companies

Every $1 spent on NIH funding provides $2.46 of downstream benefit in the form of new discoveries, etc

Pausing it even for a short time will have major detriments to science and scientists

Oh, would you look at that. It is exactly the disaster we said it might be. The impact on scientists, but also patients and society in general, will be massive.
NIH appears to have canceled/postponed all of its study sections—the independent review panels that approve federal grants for health research.

Such grants fund the work/salaries of 300k people at more than 2,500 institutions
All NIH study sections canceled indefinitely. This will halt science and devastate research budgets in universities.
