I've written a short pice on workplace bullying in academia, the quiet kind that hides behind “high standards”, and what early career researchers can do if it happens to them.

I am doing a career panel today in person which means I have to wear a collared shirt. Horrible. Terrible. I hate the concept of professionalism. A curse upon shirts that are not t-shirts.

I have covered presidential politics for 40 years. This was the most juvenile display by a President and Vice President I have ever seen. Other presidents treated their enemies with more respect. This is a low point and a dark day for the US. Totally embarrassing.

Indirect rates are not determined by NIH. Instead, they are the product of elaborate negotiations between each institution and the “cognizant federal agency” according to an Office of Management and Budget document, Circular A-21.

1. Today the NIH director issued a new directive slashing overhead rates to 15%.

I want to provide some context on what that means and why it matters.

The indirect cost rate for NIH has averaged between 27% and 28% - it is now capped at 15% … this may not sound like much but the impact will be huge… if institutions dont speak out now, then when? #AcademicSky 🧪
