So let me get this straight.

ChatGPT coached a kid through suicide attempts while validating his ideation.

The response from OpenAI is, "yeah, turns out if you talk to an LLM long enough the safety features stop working."

Guess the usage patterns of people who most need safety features!?!

🧵 No.

It is just another open-ended Musk prediction in a long line of other failed predictions.

To date, Musk has not offered a coherent design intent for their so-called "Optimus" program and no application cases where productivity has materially benefited.

At least Musk did not say "next year".
A 4-5 year timeline for humanoids to impact national GDP? That's the latest prediction from Elon.

This implies deployment at a massive scale is happening very soon. Do you think the industry is on track for this, or is this timeline too aggressive?
Any thoughts?

EU folks: There is one week left to sign the EU citizen's initiative against "conversion therapy" of LGBTQ folks. I don't think it can hit the total threshold in that time but Spain just hit the country threshold, and Belgium and the Netherlands could still make it:

A tape measure and a die both have numbers on them. Therefore when I want to know the length of an object I roll a D20. It's much faster.
Some of the anti-AI stuff feels a bit like when people would say "don't use Wikipedia as a source." It's just like anything else, a piece of information that you weigh against multiple sources and your own understanding of its likely failure modes

I feel like watching this administration is like watching someone play Simcity and trying to do everything wrong on purpose.

Pollution? More of that. Taxes (tariffs) just crank it up as high as you can. Now let's press the disaster button, right as we cut funding to fire services.

Okay lets game this out: You are a Nintendo employee given unlimited funds and authority to move Switch 2 production to the US. No new factories, that's going to take way too long, you need to work with existing American Contract Manufacturing capacity. How fast can you do it?

One reason why I think respectability is stupid is because it's often used as a mask. Such judgements are rarely about the clothes themselves, but more often about the bodies beneath them. To wit, no one raised an issue when Elon wore a graphic t-shirt and ball cap to meet the Trump cabinet.

Correct. If the birthdate field contains corrupt or mismatched data, it defaults to 1875-05-20, which serves as a flag. May 20, 1875, is the day the international standards and metrics treaty was signed. Everything is a conspiracy when you don’t know how anything works.
