Here’s some encouraging news for our community: in Germany, the government has launched a ‘National Decade Against Post-Infectious Diseases’ (2026-2036), pledging about €500 million of funding to study post-viral illnesses including Long COVID and ME/CFS.

Omfg why can infection control not get their 🤬 clown car in order and do their 🤬 jobs and tell people that for an aerosol hazard you need aerosol PPE?

Seriously, wtf is wrong with medicine that it tolerates this constant amateur-hour incompetence? We know this is killing people!

"Do no harm"?

Wait I’ve seen this one!

2020: “Covid is not airborne”
2021: “Covid infections build immunity”
2022: “Covid is over”
2023: “Covid is mild”
2024: “Covid is just a cold”
2025: “It’s not Covid, it’s flu”

Actually, yes. Years of Covid infections damaged your immune system making you vulnerable to flu.

The degree to which we are starting to understand the immune system and the role of viral pathogens in triggering autoimmune diseases is literally breathtaking. Twenty-five years ago we were fumbling around with the most basic pathways knowledge, lost in the dark. Now this!

Human to human transmission is also possible. The patient could have caught it from an asymptomatic human case, which exist. Flu typically has a wide range of effects

"No H2H unless proven otherwise" is quite a bias.

If confirmed it will be WA's first confirmed case. How many others are out there?
🚨 HEADS UP

Washington State has reported a suspected human H5N1 case with no cattle exposure likely bird-linked (or from contaminated milk).

The patient is severely ill in hospital.

Clade pending (D1 vs B3). CDC confirmation awaited.

If confirmed, it will be Washington’s first H5N1 case of 2025.

UPDATE: Canada has announced that it has lost its measles elimination status.

This is a direct result of the increase in anti-vax disinformation, which has caused large, sustained outbreaks in the country over the last year.

Well now, would you look at that?

A massive study of NEARLY 300,000 people in the United States found that receiving an updated 2024-2025 mRNA COVID-19 vaccine REDUCED people’s risk of severe disease AND death in ALL age groups, REGARDLESS of immunity from prior infection or vaccination.

The don't ask me to put myself in danger did it for me.
That what the masking up is all about ..to protect the one who is under that mask, but also his/hers loved ones, friends and the whole rest of the society and world .. when we all would mask up in public spaces until a better solution is found.

I am disappointed that air quality and far UV-C air disinfection lights were never installed in most public spaces and workplaces.

We have the tech today for non-invasive mitigation but lack a consensus.

And ultimately what is necessary is upgraded ventilation, filtration, and upper-room UV in all indoor public spaces. That would stop this. We don't need N95s forever in most places, any more than we need to boil water everywhere, anymore. Engineering is enough... if we do it.
The problem is, if people are willing to settle for less than what is actually necessary (respirator masks being required in all public spaces), it ensures that what is actually necessary will never happen.

This is new. There had been patients before but those infections likely happened elsewhere.
