Mieko Miyasaki plays the 'koto', a Japanese half-tube zither that's her country's national instrument. In 2020, she transcribed and recorded a version of Bach’s “Goldberg Variations” for solo koto. Mieko will be joined by saxophonist and clarinetist Franck Wolf when she visits Bray! #jazz #jazzsky

Great project this. The album that they released last Autumn is really worth a listen!
Shetland islander Norman Wilmore and Glaswegian Corrie Dick daringly blend the old and new with their reimagining of the airs and rich musical heritage of Scotland’s northernmost isles. They play this year's Bray Jazz Festival, on Saturday, 3rd May next. More: brayjazz.com #jazz #livejazz #jazzsky

There’s a Turkish phrase about the upside of hitting rock bottom being that things can’t get any worse. It goes göte giren şemsiye açılmaz and it means “an umbrella up one’s ass cannot be opened”

#arsecastextra. The only positives from Newcastle - another composed showing from Lewis Skelly, AND the sighting of Ben White just before the teams went out - he had two legs, they worked, and he was in a tracksuit. He'll be back before the end of Jan! @gunnerblog.bsky.social @arseblog.com

Online adverts that say stuff like “don’t bother with costly solar panels, try this* instead” are so dispiriting. Haven’t people noticed that we’re killing the planet? (*some hokem)

Anyone else getting bot follows on #Bluesky. It was great for a spell but a huge uptick over hol period. With 25m subscribers & growing, they’re gonna have to get it under control or the exodus will start. Maybe ‘social media’ is done?
