I almost finished the framing of the ramp last night. Made a mistake in the dark on the last board, so need to replace it today. Also buying the decking today. It’s possible I can wheel mom to second floor tomorrow evening for dinner. (We’ve been eating downstairs with her for 4 years).

First ramp is framed. Second and third tomorrow. Then decking the whole thing on Saturday.
Actually building the first ramp part of the ramp for mom today. My household building helpers have left for the weekend, so I will be doing it solo. Could get interesting.

The messaging for Dems seems easy: Fix the Economy, Fix Democracy (anti-corruption). Take it all back from the rich.

Misinformation *is* central to democratic problems today, but the solution is *not* to correct such epistemic failures directly. Instead, we must address them at their roots, in social identity.

Or so I argue in a new post for @apaphilosophy.bsky.social.

The Problem is Epistemic. The Solution is Not. | Blog of the APA
Doubts about the wisdom of the masses are as old as philosophy itself. Yet interest in democracy’s “epistemic” merits has surged in the last decade—and it is no mystery why. Democracy is collapsing ar...

Look, I'm not saying that you need to only use products from companies that actually follow a "Don't be Evil" motto, but if you'd like to excise yourself from the Google search monopoly I'd recommend Kagi. Yes you have yo pay, but then you actually know their business model.

We’re at that point in the semester when I can’t remember what day it is. Prepping for the wrong classes, showing up for meetings that no one else attends, wondering why no student has put their paper in the dropbox.

This stuff makes Watergate seem quaint.

There is something deeply rotten with moral thinking in America, in which people believe that bad things can be balanced out by good things and that nullifies the bad stuff. It's an epidemic and it has to be called out.

Been waiting 9 years to see this drop happen. Keep pushing.

I'm seeing a lot more depression in students at the moment. They are actually being open about it with each other and sometimes with me (I don't ask). But we all need to make sure we talk about mental health services on campus.

🚨BREAKING: Oversight Dems have received new emails from Jeffrey Epstein’s estate that raise serious questions about Donald Trump and his knowledge of Epstein’s horrific crimes.

Read them for yourself. It’s time to end this cover-up and RELEASE THE FILES.

Other folks have said it, but let me just note that:

(1) lots of talented, must-read journalists have been let go from their jobs over the last year

(2) millions of Americans are abandoning current media outlets and looking for new alternatives

Seems like a sure-fire business opportunity here?

Trump: "I was recently at an event and I saw that France was celebrating Victory Day, but we didn't. And I saw France was celebrating another Victory Day for World War 2. And other countries were celebrating. They were all celebrating. We're the one that won the wars."

A key reason the Senate needs to be destroyed is that its internal structure diffuses accountability & captures its members
This is why ousting Schumer isn't enough. Democratic senators don't pressure each other much, they have weak leadership by design, and they want to preserve arcane Senate rules that let them hide behind process.

Without primaries or massive outside pressure, this is where they'll be.
“There’s no real appetite to oust Schumer, though. Nor is there any interest from another Democrat to challenge him, according to interviews with more than a dozen Democratic senators.” @punchbowlnews.bsky.social

Oh Sen Dems are not in disarray - they are in array - in their collective cowardice.

A part of the reason Senate Dems are bad is the Senate is a ridiculous institution that has no place in a democracy.

We’re not stupid, dude.
As this vote moves to the House, I stand with Democratic leadership as they refuse to rubber stamp the full-scale Republican assault on Americans’ health care and I am proud of the majority of Senate Democrats who opposed this vote.
