After teaching this all week, I can't help but think that way too many people thinking the branches of government were "co-equal" really led to the Art I abdication of responsibility of regulating the executive & judiciary. "Co-equal" implies they can ignore each other & things will be fine.

Started reading East of Eden with a group of friends, and had our first meeting tonight. Nice to get away from everything for an hour and just talk about great literature.

Is the dramatic escalation of ICE activity really designed to get access to state voter rolls so Trump can "prove" that the 2020 election was "rigged"?

I've haven't thought about being bombed by Denmark all week so far. I guess it is true that the mind can only process so much chaos at one time.

This is dynamic movement though. Needing an affordable place to live is nonpartisan, so don't assume that this means the red states will be more red.

I love that there is a sociologist on here who regularly posts videos of her perfect squat form who can also command responses from US senators on pressing issues of constitutional rights.

Yes please.
Rep. Jamie Raskin says a nationwide general strike may be needed to stop Trump’s authoritarian crackdown, praising Minnesotans’ mass demonstrations and general strike as “the direction we may need to go” nationally.
Raskin Says Nationwide General Strike May Be Needed to Stop Trump
“I think the people of Minnesota have shown us…the direction we may need to go,” the Maryland Democrat said.

This semester I’ve been having a meditation/quiet period after teaching and a light lunch. About an hour. Has made for a lot less stress and a much more productive afternoon.

I’m sure all of these external factors make things worse for them, but being a bad person and doing bad things is what’s really bad for the human soul.

Morale plummeting among ICE agents over long hours, quotas and public hatred: reports
While immigration officers support the Trump administration’s goal of deporting undocumented migrants, many of them have grown ‘disillusioned’ with leadership’s tactics, according to reports

I know we all have a ranked list of most dislike Trump people, but I cannot wait to see her in prison.
Leavitt: "Nobody in the White House, including President Trump, wants to see people getting hurt or killed in America's streets. This includes Renee Good, Alex Pretti, the brave men and women of law enforcement, and the many Americans who have been victimized by illegal alien criminals"

Noem must be impeached and criminally prosecuted. She isn't immune.
Kristi Noem must be impeached. ICE must be abolished. Democrats in the Senate cannot fund DHS.

Trump has created a militarized police force accountable only to him. These agents need to leave our cities NOW.

Gotta say, federalism is saving the day. The one constitutional principle that we haven't screwed up yet.

I drove 3 hours through very very rural South Carolina on Saturday and did not see a single Trump sign or flag. And I was looking. Very different from 1.5 years ago.

My intro-level students are paying attention to what is going on and asking about it in class, so that means that all of this is breaking through.

It's great that Bovino is out. Can't let him be a scapegoat for Trump, Miller, and Noem though.

Was talking with my colleagues in the dept about this this morning. The goal seems clear: to incite violence against ICE, CBP and use that to justify a much larger war on American society.
I think @ryanlcooper.com is right that the overall goal here from ICE is that one of its officers is killed as a pretext for wider oppression. It's just a basic read from their tactics and the longstanding desire of conservatives to always be the victim, even as they step on your throat.
The Trump Administration Wants Dead ICE Officers
Conservatives need a narrative where they’re the victim even as they’re oppressing you.

Soooo annoying.

What we are witnessing is the demonic state: the state that does the opposite of what it is designed to do. “Punish the innocent and reward the guilty.”

Just sent a message to both my senators. Abolish ICE.

This is what is known as the way of the cross in Christian theology.
Two women trained as first responders were abducted by three ICE agents. One of the agents starts seizing. The other two don’t know what to do. The women jump into action and save the agent’s life, only to be re-handcuffed and processed.

Detained by ICE, two women became first responders during agent’s seizure
The women say they guided agents through the emergency, later raising concerns about medical protocols, weapons safety and accountability.

Minneaota and Virginia are showing the way forward. Every state and district will be different, but you have to fight evil across the board. You don’t compromise with it.

You know what I'm here for? Figuring out this 400 year old document and realizing what I want to say about it in this chapter I'm working on. It's only taken me two weeks. Take that, 4/4 load!!!
