They pine for a theologically pure past; but they'd all be stoned to death for their transgressions.

The ultra-conservative Christians are the biggest hypocrites that ever existed. If they got their wish their monster would eat them immediately.
in 1st century Judea, the corners of every field had to be left for the poor to pick crops for themselves, every seventh year *all* of the crops from fields and vineyards and orchards belonged to the poor, and all debts of all types were cancelled every 50th year.

The emotional highs and lows of defragging.

Highs: seeing all those gaps disappear.

Lows: your hard drive clicks several times in a row.
remember defragmenting your hard drive? how virtuous you felt after an hour of that. "have you achieved anything today?" "you bet I have, look at this".

This is the same reason why the moon landing conspiracies are laughable. The number of people required to be sworn to secrecy would be too many.

Mitchell & Webb even did a comedy sketch about it...
If a big company with 10s of thousands of engineers is knowingly doing something insanely unethical, it leaks. This is almost impossible to stop.

The boomers aren't going to be around much longer. But younger Trump supporters are going to feel super weird in 10 - 20 years time when they're releasing books and movies about the time the USA went bonkers and evil.

Watched The Running Man (1987) with my son tonight, ready to go see the new one. He asked me in how many movies did Arnie say "I'll be back"?

I googled it. The Gemini AI results were wrong. Wikipedia was right.

Don't trust #AI, even for trivia. Fvck Grok too.

Trump ignoring the suffering of others. Leavitt telling the patient that they didn't fall over, the democrats tipped over the White House.

The media brings on #MAGA Republicans to tell us that nothing happened except Trump brought in another 30 trillion dollars of investment.

Generating content (I only use that word as a catch-all) is an artistic endeavour.

The value is in well-constructed, hand-crafted, emotional and innovative experiences. Corporations miss the whole point of entertainment by trying to cut costs and corners.

Whenever you see reports of the financial potential and/or inevitable transformative impact of AI, it's worth reminding yourself of the McKinsey report from just three years ago that predicted that the metaverse would generate $5,000,000,000,000 of value by 2030.

Weird. People who fantasize that their cult ( #ai, #crypto, #hydrogen ) will eventually make skeptics eat humble pie.

If the skeptics were wrong they'll be living in a better world (apparently), get the benefits and be happy.

If the skeptics were right, you played a part in a con on humanity.

When they make the equivalent of The Big Short movie about the AI bubble bursting, who will Hollywood have to play @edzitron.com ?

I want a sweary Jesse Eisenberg.

Then the AI industry should die.

The same politicians that want AI to save the economy are the same politicians trying to cut university funding for the "useless" degrees that produce artists to create the content AI uses.

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

Hey, bit of advice: if you're using an open source software product that you don't pay for, which is maintained as a hobby project, and there's a very complex feature you want, maybe don't post a long message being an asshole about it not being done yet. Turns out, that'll get you exactly jack shit.

Sora is only available to users based in the USA, so I had to check out generated videos on YouTube. These are supposed to be the food ones being shown off.

It is terrible. Absolute garbage videos that users have no real control over.

What idiot believes this is the future?

"The algorithm will be controlled by America".

So it'll be shit?

Not saying I have a positive opinion of the current algorithm. But this seems to suggest that America doesn't like the results of the invisible hand of the market...
Leavitt on the TikTok deal: "There will be seven seats on the board that controls the app in the US and six of those seats will be Americans. The data and privacy will be led by one of America's greatest tech companies, Oracle, and the algorithm will also be controlled by America as well."

There has to be accountability for people who make or influence policy based on vibes instead of facts.

If their self-serving lies end up damaging the planet, property or the economy (or, even worse, loss of life) we should be making them criminally liable.

It'll really kick off when the infant mortality noticeably ticks up.

While I'm indifferent to anti-vaxers FAFOing, there will be many innocent impacted.
TAPPER: Hepatitis A, whooping cough, & chickenpox cases are rising in Florida. Before you made this decision to lift vaccine mandates, did your dept do any analysis of how many new cases there will be?

LADAPO: Absolutely not
