I think it's not so cult these days. Regardless of how people feel about YouTube film reactors, they've dusted off many old films and ignited interest in them.
Gen Z is all about discovering past gems and I've seen a lot of love for DC. Certainly more than the decade following its release.

Why are people surprised? Politicians (particularly the Tories) have been doing stuff like this for years. All they get is a slap on the wrist.

* Food banks (collections in every supermarket)
* Workers need their income topped-up by universal credit.

What % of the backlog could be erased by legalising weed? Or decriminalising possession of drugs?

If a law is repealed, anybody convicted doesn't automatically get released. There is no role for courts.
The only way is pardon or commuting of sentence by legislation or by an official with the power to pardon.

However, it has become completely corrupted in the USA where the DOJ is not independent of the executive and the president is above the law.

Also, they're only doing mea culpa due to a *US study*. Whenever a UK institution has done a study with similar results or predictions they've called it fake or left-wing bias.

Personally, I plan to throw this admission in the face of anybody who voted Brexit as evidence of why I don't give a toss for any of their opinions and suggesting they STFU until they get into their grave.
