this is what’s actually at stake here - Trumpism without Trump doesn’t work and has viscerally turned people off every time it’s been tried

Republicans will figure out a new message and champion eventually, they always do, but they will struggle for a while in a post-Trump era and that’s important
I don't think there's any going back to "normal," but I do think that if Harris hands Trump a solid defeat this week then he's not coming back, and the MAGA true believers can't hold onto national power without him.
Every election since 2012 (when Obama said he'd "break the fever"), Democrats predict that if they win the next one, the GOP will stop listening to its ideologues and revert to an earlier version of itself; in 2020 it was Joe Biden predicting an "epiphany." It never materializes.

The risk of complacency if Harris wins is big. Rather, there should be a sense of alarm. This country needs governance reform: Supreme Court reckoning, filibuster, restoring voting rights and human rights (like bodily autonomy). Move that agenda quickly and decisively, or never get the chance again.
Not only this, but if Harris wins there will be an entire cottage industry of "The System Worked" columns designed to drive people mad.
This morning I realized that if Harris wins, there is absolutely going to be a legacy Supreme Court pundit who writes a take that’s like, John Roberts Kept Trump on the Ballot Because He Had Faith That the American People Would Reject Him, and I’m gonna lose my shit

what does trump hate more than anything? being made fun of and not being the center of attention. harris going on snl hits him where it hurts the most.

Also, dividing California into several smaller states - San Diego + Imperial Counties would be larger than New Jersey and more populous than Iowa and make far more sense as its own state than electing legislators to commute 500 miles to Sacramento and sharing 2 senators with 40 million Californians

Writing more letters to voters tonight and through tomorrow. This is one of the easiest things you can do to reach people in swing states. Just 5 letters, 15 minutes, and you're done. (Of course, you can always do a lot more if you want!)
