I've never understood "the night is always darkest just before the dawn." The night is always darkest in the middle of the night. We're a long way from dawn, and I think we are still a long way from the middle of the night.

But the dawn will come.

I’m not sure people outside the Twin Cites realize the prevalence and the fear ICE is causing in Twin Cities. They are dining undercover pretending to be couples at restaurants, they are going to businesses and checking the license plates of cars to find employees. Every public place is compromised.

Not to sound like kind of an angry person at the moment, but all of the Philly folks being like we would do this differently. What exactly are we Minnesotans supposed to be doing differently? People are putting their bodies on the line against the full force of the federal government.

I keep thinking about the toxic, pervasive mythology of "rugged individualism" as a driving force in American culture, and how the collective efforts in the Twin Cities right now are proof that the only way through hard times is together, as a community.

Paul Wellstone and Walter Mondale would have been incredibly proud of Minnesota.
People in Minnesota are now using their key fobs to trigger their car alarms from the safety of their homes when they see ICE walking around.

I used to tweet out that we desperately need more dignity infrastructure in our cities and Zohran just...just...going out and doing it irl?
More public restrooms across our city?
Relief for all New Yorkers.

just got out of an uber. the driver was telling me how he has to work 16 hour days, seven days a week, at two different jobs to afford rent. he doesn't have healthcare and he worries about retirement. "i would feel a lot better if we owned greenland," he told me. then he cried.

I just want people to know that there is no active insurrection, no regular protests, no rioting or whatever. The only time people are in the streets is when masked armed ICE thugs descend on one of our neighbors to disappear them as part of a federal government-led ethnic cleansing campaign.

People who were actually enslaved believed that chattel slavery would end one day.

I'm sorry but to me that suggests that you [who are not enslaved in 2026] can also imagine an end to the current horrors.

NEW: As the chaotic scenes from Minnesota play out around the clock, Axios has learned that some Trump advisers quietly are talking about "recalibrating" the White House's approach.

Trump's team recently reviewed private GOP polling that showed support for his immigration policies falling.

You obviously can’t “re-gift” a Nobel Peace Prize,” and everyone (even Trump) knows it.

So it will never be his.

But his record-breaking pathetic neediness has to be fed, and his completely corrupt value system considers something stolen or coerced to be maybe even better than something earned.
It's truly difficult to think of a more pathetic picture than this in American presidential history.

The level of Susan Collins Concern going to be off the charts.
ICE is coming to Portland and Lewiston imminently, their mayors confirmed today. Both cities have large Somali populations.

When reached for comment, ICE wouldn’t even confirm whether or not this action was happening.

Abolish ICE
Today at 34 & Park in Minneapolis, a woman tried to drive down the street where a protest had broken out in front of a home ICE was raiding, saying she had a doctor apt to get to. ICE agents busted out her windows, cut off her seatbelt, and pulled her out before arresting her.

The MPD union, at least, has made it clear which side they are on.

This is the cost of DECADES of (everyone, everywhere) refusing to deal with the rising right-wing and white-nationalist involvement in policing.

The same people who spent yesterday, and the past five years, insisting a Black police officer who shot an insurrectionist breaking into the Capitol should be prosecuted are today bending over backwards to defend an ICE agent who shot a woman in her car in cold blood.

Scum.
